  • Publication number: 20080126489
Abstract: A computer implemented method, apparatus, and computer usable program product for managing e-mail messages. Responsive to receiving an e-mail message for a recipient, a determination is made as to whether a condition is present in the e-mail message using a policy associated with the recipient. If the condition is present in the e-mail message, a determination is made as to whether a number of other e-mail messages having the condition exceed a threshold associated with condition. An oldest e-mail message is removed from the number of e-mail messages having the condition in response to a determination that the number of e-mail messages exceeds the threshold.

  • Patent number: 6834044
Abstract: A system and method in a packet-switched radio access network of sending data packets over a radio interface from a Mobile Station (MS) to a Radio Network Controller (RNC) using multiple data transmission paths. When the MS launches a new application through a first base station (BS1), a Multi-path Context Activator (MCA) in the RNC determines whether the bandwidth required by the new application exceeds the bandwidth capacity of the radio interface portion of the first data transmission path. If so, the RNC identifies a second BS (BS2) that has the capacity to provide a portion of the radio interface bandwidth required. The MS then transmits separate data streams to BS1 and BS2 as over the radio interface. The MCA combines the separate upstream data portions. For downstream packets, the MCA separates the packets into two streams which are sent to an MCA in the MS via BS1 and BS2.

  • Patent number: 6763012
Abstract: A mobile terminal (MT) and a method of connecting a plurality of devices on a computer network to a packet data network (PDN) over a single wireless link. In a first embodiment, the MT requests and receives from the PDN, a network IP address comprising a plurality of unique individual IP addresses. The number of IP addresses may be defined in a subscription agreement. The MT then utilizes a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server in the MT to distribute the plurality of unique individual IP addresses to the plurality of devices on the LAN. In a second embodiment, the MT requests a separate PDP Context for each device on the LAN requiring an IP address. The MT utilizes a Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE) session between the devices on the LAN and the MT to virtually separate the physical network connection and distribute individual IP addresses to the plurality of devices on the LAN.

  • Patent number: 6707813
Abstract: A method of call control in a packet-switched radio telecommunication network that minimizes delays in launching a voice call from a first Internet Protocol (IP)-based mobile station (MS) to a second IP-based MS. The method includes the steps of preventing voice traffic from being routed to an Internet Service Provider (ISP), and setting up an optimized path for voice traffic from the first MS to the second MS. The optimized path may be set up by creating a shortest route tunnel between a first serving GPRS service node (SGSN1) serving the first MS and a second SGSN (SGSN2) serving the second MS. Alternatively, the tunnel may be established between the base station controllers (BSCs) of each MS's serving radio base station.

  • Patent number: 6687252
Abstract: In a General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) network, a system and method of dynamically allocating an Internet Protocol (IP) address to a mobile terminal (MT) operating in the network. A Gateway GPRS Service Node (GGSN) requests IP addresses over the Gi interface from a Radius server in an IP-based network. A Conditional PDP Address (CPA) parameter is stored in the MT's Home Location Register (HLR) as part of the user subscriber data, and is passed to the GGSN during the GPRS Attach procedure. The CPA parameter indicates whether the subscriber is entitled to a backup IP address in case of failure to obtain one over the Gi interface, and whether the MT is a user of a real-time application. A timer in the GGSN sets a maximum time period (Ti) that the GGSN will wait for a response from the server, and a counter (Ni) sets the maximum number of requests that are sent.

  • Patent number: 6604142
Abstract: A method and apparatus for filtering responses to a gatekeeper discovery request message that is multicast from a mobile terminal to a plurality of gatekeepers in a communications network so that an optimum gatekeeper can be selected. When using the H.323 protocol, an enhanced Gatekeeper Request (GRQ) message includes criteria for an optimum gatekeeper for the mobile terminal. Each gatekeeper, upon receiving the enhanced GRQ message, determines whether it meets the criteria in the request message. If so, a confirmation message is sent to the mobile terminal from each gatekeeper that meets the criteria. In an alternative embodiment, gatekeepers that receive the enhanced GRQ message send a response indicating their capabilities to meet each of the criteria. The mobile terminal then determines the optimum gatekeeper by comparing the reported gatekeeper capabilities to the optimum gatekeeper criteria.

  • Patent number: 6256612
Abstract: A method of reducing speech delay and improving speech quality in digital transmission systems by implementing a single coder-decoder (codec) for an entire speech path from a calling party to a called party. The method is applicable to calls between mobile subscribers and between a mobile subscriber and an H.323 client terminal in a data network. After obtaining location information for the called party, an indication of a requested codec is sent from the calling party to the called party utilizing Integrated Services Data Network User Part (ISUP) or Primary Rate Interface (PRI) out-of-band signaling during call setup. If the called party supports the requested codec, a confirmation of the requested codec is sent from the called party to the calling party. A speech path is then established between the parties, and a single codec translation is performed for the entire speech path.
