A payload header included in the payload includes identification information indicating an MPU to which at least one MPU included in the payload belongs, and a counter indicating the number of the at least one MPU.

The packet payload includes an access unit including media data related to the multimedia content and information related to the access unit. Control information for delivery and consumption of the multimedia content is identified. The identified packet is transmitted. The identified control information is transmitted separately from the packet. The control information includes type information related to content in the multimedia content, discovery information related to the content in the multimedia content, and relationship information related to contents in the multimedia content.

Abstract: There are provided a method and apparatus for delivering transport characteristics of multimedia data. According to an aspect of the present invention, transport characteristics of media data that can be divided in a unit of a Media Processing Unit (MPU) are created in a unit of a predetermined number of MPUs, the created transport characteristics and a flag indicating presence or absence of the created transport characteristics are inserted into the media data, and the resultant media data is delivered. Accordingly, by using transport characteristics in units of media data unit groups, each media data unit corresponding to a short time length, it is possible to effectively control Quality of Service (QoS) in a dynamically changing transport environment, like a mobile network.

The transmitting apparatus includes: a baseband packet (BBP) generator configured to generate a BBP including a header and payload data; a frame generator configured to generate a frame including the BBP; a signal processor configured to signal-process the generated frame; and a transmitter configured to transmit the signal-processed frame. The header includes information about a type of the payload data, whether an additional header exists, a length of the payload data, and a Least Significant Bit (LSB) of the length of the payload data. Therefore, various types of data are mapped on a physical layer based on information included in the header, and data processing efficiency is improved.
