Patent number: 10606413Abstract: The position of a smartphone placed on a touchscreen is determined. Smartphones are placed on a touchscreen of a table PC, and user interface images are displayed respectively around the smartphones to perform cooperation. The table PC displays a position pattern to determine the position of a smartphone being placed. The position pattern includes a pattern of two tones. A camera of the smartphone captures a blurred image of a predetermined location of the position pattern. The table PC identifies the position of the smartphone, from a tone value of the captured image received wirelessly from the smartphone. The table PC can thus determine the position of the smartphone without using special hardware.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 2015Date of Patent: March 31, 2020Assignee: LENOVO (SINGAPORE) PTE. Patent number: 9766664Abstract: The invention provides a method for a portable electronic device such as a computer to be capable of safely coping with the occurrence of a surprise removal from an external hard disk drive (HDD) connected by wireless. An HDD is connected to a portable computer by wireless via a wireless extension device. First, a wireless communication path between the HDD and the portable computer is configured. Subsequently, a file is read and edited by accessing the HDD from the portable computer. Next, removal information indicating that the portable computer is away from the HDD is produced. The removal information can be produced by detecting an acceleration generated in the portable computer, or by directly detecting the distance by the strength of the wireless signal. Data under editing is saved before occurrence of surprise removal by ejecting the HDD in response to the production of the removal information.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 2009Date of Patent: September 19, 2017Assignee: Lenovo (Singapore) Pte. Patent number: 8953082Abstract: A camera system that transfers static image data while reducing power consumption is provided. A static image application issues a frame transfer command at a certain transfer period to a camera module. In each transfer period, the camera module wakes up from a suspend state and generates static image data. After the end of the transfer, the camera module transitions to the suspend state. The camera module is able to transition to the suspend state at each transfer period and thus is able to reduce power consumption.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 2012Date of Patent: February 10, 2015Assignee: Lenovo (Singapore) Pte. Ltd.Inventors: Susumu Shimotono, Jun Sugiyama, Hideki Kashiyama

Patent number: 8856572Abstract: A laptop PC is enabled to operate with small power consumption while maintaining a specific function. A laptop PC is provided with a HDD and can operate in a normal mode and a doze mode as a new operating mode. In the doze mode, the computer can operate with power consumption less than in the normal mode while executing a process to implement a specific function. In the doze mode a shift event is created, and a process existing at that time is force-suspended or an I/O processing completion notification is suspended to a process that makes an I/O request to the HDD. As a result, the laptop PC is enabled to operate with small power consumption by stopping the HDD while maintaining a specific function.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 2011Date of Patent: October 7, 2014Assignee: Lenovo (Singapore) Pte. Patent number: 8654978Abstract: An apparatus, computer program product, and method are disclosed for access control to a mobile terminal. A use end event is generated indicating an end of use of a mobile terminal. Acceleration of the mobile terminal is binarized by the mobile terminal after the use end event is generated to one of a first value indicating a stationary state and a second value indicating a moving state. A use start event is generated indicating a start of use of the mobile terminal. A movement preparation period is measured from a time at which the use end event is generated to a time at which a transition from the first value to the second value occurs. Use authentication is requested in response to the use start event and in response to the movement preparation period exceeding a first threshold.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 2012Date of Patent: February 18, 2014Assignee: Lenovo (Singapore) Pte. Patent number: 8499143Abstract: A computer system having an operating environment configured for enabling boot up in a relatively short time is disclosed. A hard disk is utilized to store a boot file. A run process list registers a process to be run during boot up. When the computer system is being booted up, if the run process list registers a process to load the boot file, a process control unit does not control a process management unit, so that the process is run as usual. If the process is not registered, the process management unit suspends the process. When the suspended process is called by another process later, the process control unit makes the process resumed on demand.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 2010Date of Patent: July 30, 2013Assignee: Lenovo (Singapore) Pte LtdInventors: Hiroshi Itoh, Akihiko Mizutani, Susumu Shimotono, Kunihiko Miwa
