  • Patent number: 4363794
Abstract: An oral composition is disclosed which comprises a stannous salt such as stannous fluoride, a water-soluble fluoride salt such as sodium fluoride and an orally acceptable acid such as L-ascorbic acid, lactic acid, malonic acid, tartaric acid, citric acid, hydrochloric acid and pyrophosphoric acid, the molar ratio of fluoride ion to stannous ion being in the range of 3.2 to 7:1, preferably 3.5-6:1, in an aqueous condition and the pH of the composition being in the range of from 2 to 4. The composition exhibits excellent effects on the inhibition of dental caries.

  • Patent number: 4335102
Abstract: An oral composition for caries prophylaxis which comprises a highly soluble stannous compound such as stannous fluoride preferably in an amount of 0.03 to 5% by weight of the composition as stannous tin, a difficultly soluble stannous compound such as stannous pyrophosphate preferably in an amount of 0.05 to 10% by weight of the composition as stannous tin, a phytic acid compound such as sodium phytate preferably in an amount of 0.1 to 20% by weight of the composition, and the pH of the composition being preferably acidic. A portion of the difficultly soluble stannous compound may be in a precipitate form. The oral composition which may be used as dentifrices, prophylactic pastes, dental flosses and the like permits n.sup.2+ ions to exert its effect because the storage stability is high enough to maintain the increased concentration of active dissolved stannous ions in the composition for a prolonged period of time and can render the tooth enamel more resistant to acid attack when applied to teeth.

  • Patent number: 4259316
Abstract: An oral composition for caries prophylaxis which comprises 0.04 to 10% by weight of stannous fluoride and not less than 0.1% by weight of a phytic acid compound, the molar ratio of the phytic acid compound to stannous fluoride being in the range of from 0.01:1 to 4:1 and the composition being acidic, is effective in inhibiting dental caries and shows a prolonged effect after application. The oral composition may be used as mouthwashes, oral bands, topical solutions, cavity sealers, prophylactic pastes, dentifrices, dental flosses and the like.

  • Patent number: 4162576
Abstract: An appliance for treating teeth, such as human teeth, by providing them with a reinforcing acid-resistant layer of a tooth decay retarding agent. The appliance includes a vibrator for producing ultrasonic vibrations, this vibrator terminating in an elongated vibratory tip. A casing houses the vibrator and has a tubular open end region in which the tip is at least partly accommodated. This tubular open end region of the casing carries an elastic membrane wall which extends across the tubular open end region of the casing and through which the tip extends so that the tip has a free end situated outwardly beyond this elastic membrane wall. The elastic membrane wall fluid-tightly engages the vibratory tip while surrounding the latter, and the membrane wall maintains this fluid-tight engagement with the tip during vibration thereof.

  • Patent number: 4144646
Abstract: A torsional ultrasonic vibrator particularly adapted for treating teeth by exposing them to ultrasonic waves in the presence of a tooth-decay retarding agent which engages the teeth. A shaft which has a central axis has fixed thereto a blade which projects from the latter axis while having a size small enough to be situated in the mouth of an individual to be treated and large enough to extend along a plurality of teeth in the mouth. A vibrator is operatively connected with this shaft for angularly oscillating the same about the above axis at an ultrasonic frequency.

  • Patent number: 4144882
Abstract: A device for exposing teeth to radiation of ultrasonic waves while the teeth are contacted by a decay-retarding agent, for forming a reinforcing layer of the latter agent on the teeth. In addition to a generator for generating ultrasonic waves, the device includes a support structure which carries a plate capable of transmitting and reflecting the ultrasonic waves. The latter plate is situated between the generator and teeth toward which waves are generally directed from the generator, so that the latter waves are received by this plate which transmits part of the waves through the plate to the teeth at the side of the plate opposite from the generator while another part of the waves are reflected by this plate away from the teeth which receive the transmitted waves, so that in this way the reflected waves may be utilized to treat additional teeth.

  • Patent number: 4127125
Abstract: For the purpose of forming a reinforcing layer of a decay-retarding agent on the surface of teeth, a device is provided for transmitting ultrasonic waves to the teeth while the latter are in contact with a decay-retarding agent. The device includes an enclosure which is adapted to contain a medium for transmitting ultrasonic waves, this enclosure including a sheet material which defines a hollow interior space in which an ultrasonic wave transmitting medium is adapted to be located. This sheet material of the enclosure has the property of being impermeable to the ultrasonic wave transmitting medium, so that the latter cannot pass through the sheet material. In addition, the sheet material has the property of transmitting ultrasonic waves therethrough.
