    Abstract: A poly-layer nematic liquid crystal display device is constructed for operation in the twisted nematic mode, the surfaces of the plates are oriented for rotating the plane of polarization of polarized light in alternate directions as the light passes through each successive layer of the device. Such alternation in direction of rotation provides for maximum contrast and visibility of the display produced by the device.
