  • Patent number: 7457079
Abstract: A thin film magnetic recording head comprises a substrate, a first magnetic core formed on the substrate, a second magnetic core having the front end face with a magnetic gap with respect to the front end face of the first magnetic core, and a coil for developing magnetic flux between the front end portions of the magnetic cores. A width of the second magnetic core at the front end portion thereof is chosen to be smaller than that of the first magnetic core. The second magnetic core is at a leading position relative to the second magnetic core in a traveling direction on a recording medium. In such configuration, it is possible to reduce side erase due to recording magnetic flux fringing and to achieve high density of magnetic recording while maintaining the conventional fabrication steps for the thin film magnetic recording head, thereby avoiding the problem in the fabrication.

  • Patent number: 7372655
Abstract: Attributes of data recorded on a magnetic tape are stored in an attribute information table saved in an MIC (Memory in Cassette) of a tape cassette accommodated in a tape streamer drive connected to a host computer. The attributes are recorded for every identifier used for identifying a recording unit of the data. For each identifier, the attributes include the name of a file, a title, a file creation date/time, a file updating date/time, the amount of data contained in the file, the type of the data and a compression rate of the data. The attributes include not only those supplied by the host computer but also attributes generated after a data recording operation as information on the recording location of data. The attributes generated after the data recording operation include a group number and an offset from the beginning of the group identified by the group number. For example, the present invention can be applied to the tape streamer drive.

  • Patent number: 7292412
Abstract: In a helical scanning type magnetic recording and/or reproducing apparatus for selecting one of output signals of two reproducing heads that are disposed at positions different by of 180° and transferring the selected output signal with a rotary transformer of one channel, a rotor side winding of a reproducing signal channel of a rotary transformer is divided into two portions. The divided portions are connected at two positions that are opposite to output terminals of head amplifiers that amplify output signals of reproducing heads and that have self short-circuit switches. Without use of extra wirings, the head amplifiers are directly connected to the rotary transformer. An output signal of the reproducing head is selected by short-circuiting a self short-circuit switch of a head amplifier corresponding to a head that does not reproduce a signal.

  • Patent number: 7239466
Abstract: The present invention provides a magnetic head device for recording magnetic signals simultaneously through a plurality of recording heads into recording tracks laid oblique to a running direction of a magnetic tape, which includes first group to m-th group of multi-heads, each group having “q” recording heads disposed side by side as being shifted in a recording direction into the recording tracks to form (q×m) recording tracks with an identical recording width Tp. • Patent number: 7161760
Abstract: First, data is read from tracks formed on a tape-shaped recording medium by heads disposed on a rotary drum, to measure error rates. Next, of the tracks formed on the tape-shaped recording medium, a worst track suffering the highest error rate is detected based on the error rates thus measured. Then, a pair of reproducing heads that can reproduce the worst track thus detected at the lowest error rates is detected from the measured error rates. Thereafter, tracking servo control is performed such that the worst track can be scanned by the pair of reproducing heads. As a result, a reproducing apparatus capable of proper reproduction even when recorded tracks undergo variations in width and reproducing heads are erroneously mounted.

Abstract: A rotary drum includes a plurality of reproducing heads each having a plus azimuth angle (+azimuth angle), which heads are collectively arranged at a location in the circumferential direction of the rotary drum in such a manner as to be in close proximity to each other, to be taken as a +azimuth reproducing head group, and a plurality of reproducing heads each having a minus azimuth angle (?azimuth angle), which heads are collectively arranged at a location in the circumferential direction of the rotary drum in such a manner as to be in close proximity to each other, to be taken as a ?azimuth reproducing head group, wherein the +azimuth reproducing head group and the ?azimuth reproducing head group are spaced from each other in the circumferential direction of the rotary drum. With this rotary drum, signals can be certainly reproduced from recording tracks with narrowed widths by using the multiple reproducing heads arranged on the rotary drum.

  • Patent number: 7075752
Abstract: A linear tape system has a multi-reproducing head MRh comprising a plurality of reproducing heads Rh each of which corresponds to one recording track Tr. Each reproducing head of the multi-reproducing head is arranged with a displacement in a width direction of the recording track. An entire width MRhw of the multi-reproducing head is enlarged larger than a width Trw of the recording track. In this manner, the linear tape system can reproduce the recording track recorded in a narrow width and provide a higher recording density.

  • Patent number: 7050265
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a rotary head drum unit including a cylindrical drum surface and a magnetic head for recording/reproducing a signal to/from a magnetic tape running along the drum surface. The magnetic head has a tape sliding surface adapted to come into sliding contact with the magnetic tape. The tape sliding surface of the magnetic head is positioned at a level lower than the height of the magnetic tape flying above the drum surface. The magnetic tape is brought into contact with the tape sliding surface by negative pressure. With this configuration, an increase in contact pressure of the magnetic tape sliding on the tape sliding surface of the magnetic head can be prevented and the contact pressure can be uniformed to thereby prevent a reduction and variations in magnetic recording or reproduction output.
