  • Patent number: 4533969
Abstract: A tape cassette incorporates an anti-static member that dissipates static electricity on the tape as it runs. The anti-static member comprises an electrically conductive strip that flexibly engages the edges of the coils of tape wound on reels inside the cassette housing. A tab integral with the strip extends into a locating hole of the cassette housing for engagement with a conductive locating pin on the apparatus using the cassette when the cassette is installed. The tab provides a grounding means that completes the connection of the tape to ground and prevents the build-up of static electricity on the tape as it rubs itself and the cassette guiding elements while it is running.

  • Patent number: 4505546
Abstract: A liquid crystal display device is disclosed in which a liquid crystal material mixed with a dichroic dye is held between a pair of substrates whose facing surfaces are provided with electrodes, so that a picture element is made up of a pair of facing portions of the electrodes and a portion of the liquid crystal material sandwiched by the facing portions, in which a reflecting plate is adjacent to one of the substrates, and in which at least one of the substrates is formed of a birefringent material having slow and fast principal axes of birefringence. In the above device, an angle between the direction of the absorption axis of the dichroic dye and one of the principal axes of birefringence of the substrate is selected so that the contrast and viewing-direction characteristic of the device can be improved.

  • Patent number: 4468543
Abstract: An ignition distributor is disclosed for use in an internal combustion engine including a plurality of cylinders each fitted with an ignition plug. The distributor includes a plurality of fixed electrodes disposed in circumferential spaced relationship and electrically connected to the respective ignition plugs. A rotor electrode is provided which is electrically connected to a power source and rotatable to successively face the fixed electrodes with a narrow gap with rotation of the engine thereby distributing power to the respective ignition plugs. At least either of the rotor electrode and each of the fixed electrodes has its facing surface formed of conductive and insulating materials combined.

  • Patent number: 4437778
Abstract: A tape cassette for use with a thermal printing apparatus includes a cassette housing; supply and take-up reels rotatably mounted in the cassette housing; tape having a pigment thereon wound about the supply and take-up reels and having a segment extending between the reels, the length of the segment being adjustable; a hollow projecting portion extending from the cassette housing and having a free end at which a first guide pin is connected; a second guide pin moveably mounted, in a sliding or pivotal relation, with respect to the cassette housing for guiding the segment of tape; and optionally, a tape drawing member to which the second guide pin may be connected and which is moveable with respect to the cassette housing for adjusting the length of the segment of tape.

  • Patent number: 4362771
Abstract: This invention relates to a liquid crystal display element comprising a pair of transparent substrates, electrodes formed on the individual surfaces thereof facing each other, a liquid crystal material layer held between the substrates, and gap controlling material for keeping the gap between the substrates, and is characterized in that the gap controlling material is dispersed and fixed on the substrate surface by an insulating coating film such as an orientation controlling film. When the gap controlling material is thus dispersed and fixed, it does not move between the substrates, and hence the change of the gap length between the substrates is prevented, so that there can be obtained a liquid crystal display element in which the distance between the substrates is uniform.

  • Patent number: 4354070
Abstract: In a distributor for internal combustion engine, the rotor electrode is formed of a first electrode of a conductive metal, and a second electrode electrically connected to the first electrode. The second electrode is formed of the mixture of fine particles of resistive and conductive materials. The first electrode is made in contact with the center carbon of the distributor, and the second electrode is opposed to the stationary electrode of the distributor. The minimum length from the discharge end surface of the second electrode to the first connection between the first and second electrodes is selected to be 5 mm or above.

  • Patent number: 4021633
Abstract: A persistent current switch adapted to connect the ends of a superconducting coil together and to disconnect the ends thereof includes a vacuum casing and at least a pair of electrodes disposed in the vacuum casing in opposing relationship to each other. Each of the electrodes is provided with a highly conductive contact portion of high-purity metal having a very small resistivity at extremely low temperatures and with at least one superconducting contact portion of superconducting material in alignment with one another in the respective electrodes so that parallel current paths of the highly conductive contact portion and the superconducting contact portion may be simultaneously established when the electrodes are brought into contact with each other.
