Abstract: An excellent periodic domain-inverted structure formed on a ferroelectric optical single crystal substrate is provided having an improved crystalline property of the substrate and an improved resistance to optical damage and output of the domain-inverted structure and the like optical waveguide structure by forming protruded and recessed portions on a single-domained ferroelectric optical single crystal substrate 1, growing a film of a ferroelectric optical single crystal film 4 on the respective recessed portion of the single crystal substrate 1 by a liquid phase epitaxial growing process. At that time, the Curie temperature of the film 4 is lower than the liquid phase epitaxial growing temperature of the film 4, and the Curie temperature of the substrate 1 is higher than the liquid phase epitaxial growing temperature of the film 4, and the film 4 is polarized in an opposite direction to the polarization direction of the substrate 1.

  • Patent number: 5924290
Abstract: An optoelectronic element module is provided, which has improved reliability in cooling performance. This module is comprised of an optoelectronic element, a Peltier unit for cooling the optoelectronic element, and a package encapsulating the optoelectronic element and the Peltier unit. The optoelectronic element is mounted directly on or indirectly through a supporting member on a first surface of the Peltier unit. A second surface of the Peltier unit is engaged with a mounting surface of the package by an engaging structure while allowing the Peltier unit to shift along the mounting surface of the package. A thermal stress caused by a difference between thermal expansion coefficients of the second surface of the Peltier unit and the mounting surface of the package is relaxed by a positional shift of the Peltier unit along the mounting surface of the package with respect to the package. Preferably, the engaging structure produces a magnetic-field force or elastic force for engagement.

  • Patent number: 5741389
Abstract: The invention provides an on-line continuous method for producing a masking film roll to be used in painting, comprising corona-discharging the inner surface of a tubular film of a polyolefinic resin, cutting the tubular film open, folding the film in the lengthwise direction in a particular manner, partly attaching an adhesive tape to the film along its lengthwise one edge in such a manner that the adhesive surface of the tape is made to face the corona-discharged surface of the film and that the thus-attached tape is left to have a non-attached part in its lengthwise direction, and winding up the film around a tubular core to be a roll, provides the masking film roll as produced by the method in which the adhesive surface of the adhesive tape attached to thereto faces opposite to the non-corona-discharged surface of the uppermost layer of the folded film, and provides a tubular film of a polyolefinic resin from which the masking film of the invention is produced and of which the inner surface has been coron

  • Patent number: 5504349
Abstract: An optoelectronic device containing a base plate, a first lead fixed to the base plate, a first bonding face for a light-emitting element fixed to the base plate and a second bonding face for a light-receiving element fixed to the base plate. The first and second bonding faces orient different directions. A top end part of the first lead protruding form the base plate has a third bonding face parallel to the first bonding face and a fourth bonding face parallel to the second bonding face. Each end of a first piece of bonding wire is bonded to the first bonding face and the third bonding face. Each end of a second piece of bonding wire is bonded to the second bonding face and the fourth bonding face. The wire bonding processes of the first and second pieces of bonding wire are performed between the parallel bonding faces, respectively, producing sufficient bonding reliability.

  • Patent number: 5416869
Abstract: In a semiconductor laser device used as an optical time domain reflectometer, a polarizer is inserted in the path of the laser light. The plane of polarization of the polarizer is aligned to the plane of polarization of the emitted laser light, and the polarizer transmits the emitted laser light without attenuation. A reflected laser light from an optical fiber under test is a non-polarized light and receives a substantial attenuation by the polarizer. Thus, problems associated with reradiation echoes are prevented.
