  • Patent number: 5921618
Abstract: A lower body structure for a vehicle having a pair of side sills provided respectively at vehicle transverse ends of a floor panel in such a manner as to extend in a longitudinal direction of the vehicle includes: a floor-panel reinforcing member disposed on an underside of the floor panel in such a manner as to extend in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle at a position spaced apart from each of the side sills in a transversely inward direction of the vehicle; and a side-sill reinforcing member disposed on an upper surface of the floor panel in such a manner as to extend in a transverse direction of the vehicle and connect a vehicle transverse inner side portion of each of the side sills and the floor panel, wherein the side-sill reinforcing member is provided such that a portion of the floor panel which extends from each of the side sills to a position spaced apart a predetermined distance from the floor-panel reinforcing member in a transversely outward direction of the vehicle is reinforced along th

  • Patent number: 5370438
Abstract: A front side member of an automobile has a rigid portion formed in a closed cross section by an inner panel and an outer panel and extending in the longitudinal direction of a car body, and a base portion extending inwards and downwards in the lateral direction of the car body from the rigid portion. The rigid portion is provided with a reinforcement arranged in the closed cross section and extending in the longitudinal direction of the car body. The reinforcement is shortened less than the inner panel at a top portion thereof and provided with a linear corner portion. As a result, an axis, which is one of rectangular coordinate axes as principal axes of the closed cross section and which maximizes a moment of inertia with respect to the axis, is formed so as to direct downwards from the outside to the inside in the lateral direction of the car body.

  • Patent number: 5356695
Abstract: A structure of a panel includes a peripheral portion and an intermediate portion integrally provided with the peripheral portion. At least the intermediate portion includes a curved surface having a substantially constant sum of the maximum curvature and the minimum curvature at all the points on a surface of the intermediate portion. Further, the peripheral portion is formed as the same curved surface as the curved surface of the intermediate portion, or a curved surface having a curvature different from the curvature of the curved surface of the intermediate portion so as to enhance the panel stiffness of the peripheral portion.

  • Patent number: 5201566
Abstract: A front body structure for vehicles comprises a side sill formed by a first frame and a second frame each having closed cross sections, wherein the first frame is curved upwardly and is further curved inwardly in a transverse direction of a vehicle body so as to form a cowl front portion and the second frame is curved inwardly in the transverse direction of the vehicle body so as to form a dash cross portion, and a front side frame which bifurcates into two bifurcated portions in a vicinity of a front side portion of the vehicle body. The first and second frames are respectively joined to end portions of the bifurcated portions, substantially even therewith. An end portion of a lower bifurcated portion of the front side frame is joined without offset to the dash cross portion. An end portion of an upper bifurcated portion of the front side frame is joined without offset to the cowl front portion. Consequently, load inputted to the front frame can be received by the side sill via the first and second frames.

  • Patent number: 5157971
Abstract: A method of detecting a tape thickness d and/or a winding diameter Rs of a successive magnetic tape wound on first and second reels therebetween comprising determining a first rotational number C.sub.1 of the first reel indicating variation in a winding number of the magnetic tape on the first reel and a second rotational number C.sub.2 of the second reel indicating variation in a winding number of the magnetic tape on the second reel and a winding radii of the first and second reels reel being Ro and Rs, respectively, when the first and second rotational numbers C.sub.1 and C.sub.2 are zero, while the magnetic tape is being transferred between a first winding state at which the first and second rotational numbers C.sub.1 and C.sub.2 are C.sub.1 a and C.sub.2 a and a second winding state at which the first and second rotational numbers C.sub.1 and C.sub.2 are C.sub.1 b and C.sub.2 b, determining the tape thickness d from an expression (1);d=(-G.multidot.M+E.multidot.N)/(E.multidot.H-F.multidot.

  • Patent number: 5085484
Abstract: A vehicle framing structure has elongated side sills longitudinally disposed in the lower portions of a vehicle, spring supports longitudinally disposed either at the front or in the rear portions of the sills, or both, and side members having one end connected to the sills and the other end connected to the spring supports, the side members having straight line axes when viewed in a plan view. The arrangement reduces torsional deformation of the side members and improves rigidity in the connection between the sills and the spring supports.
