The head slider is mounted on a head slider mounting portion formed on an end of the suspension opposite to the base portion. A tongue portion is formed along a side of the base portion. The tongue portion uprightly protrudes from the base portion. A head IC chip is mounted on a head IC chip mounting portion formed in the tongue portion.

One or more through holes are provided on the head IC mounting surface of the head suspension and the head IC is mounted by injecting a bonding agent between the mounting surface and the head IC through the through holes. The bonding agent is evenly distributed beneath the head IC, so that the head suspension is well balanced.

Furthermore, the method includes pressing the ball member to bond the head terminal with the terminal of the slider supporting member so that the ball member connects the terminals electrically and mechanically.

    Abstract: A suspension has an extending end and the other end. A head IC chip mounting portion is provided between the extending end and the other end of the suspension. A head slider is loaded on a first surface of the suspension at a position on the side of the extending end with respect to the head IC chip mounting portion, the head slider integrally including a head. A head IC chip is mounted at the head IC chip mounting portion of the suspension. First wiring patterns extend along the suspension between a portion of the suspension, at which portion the head slider is loaded, and the head IC chip mounting portion. Second wiring patterns extend along the suspension between the head IC chip mounting portion and the other end of the suspension. The head IC chip is mounted at the head IC chip mounting portion in a condition in which a certain portion of the head IC chip is positioned on the side of a second surface of the suspension, which second surface is opposite to the first surface.

    Abstract: A head assembly which can prevent an increase in the frictional force between the head and the recording medium, even if the spindle motor is rotated in the reverse direction during start-up of the disk drive. The head assembly includes a suspension having a roundedly bent portion for generating a spring load and a gimbal located on the suspension. A head slider is mounted on the gimbal. The head slider has an air bearing surface, an air inlet end, and an air outlet end. The spring load of said suspension is applied to the head slider at a load point that is offset from a center of gravity of said head slider. Preferably, the offset load point is located between the center of gravity of the head slider and its air inlet end. Additionally, the head slider preferably includes several pads extending from its air bearing surface, and the offset load point can be located at the center of gravity of the pads (as opposed to the center of gravity of the head slider in its entirety).

    Abstract: A suspension mechanism of a recording disk apparatus has a head slider mounted on a portion of a load beam in the vicinity of the free end of the load beam through a gimbal spring. The gimbal spring has a central leg portion and two side leg portions, all of which are formed in parallel. The head slider is adhered to the top surface of the central leg portion which is lifted from the side leg portions. A protrusion formed on the load beam or on the central leg portion serves to transfer loading force generated by the load beam to the head slider by a universal joint connection. The gimbal spring is mounted on the load beam such that the longitudinal direction of the central leg portion is normal to the seek direction of the head slider.
