Abstract: A ferrite composition includes main-phase particles, first sub-phase particles, second sub-phase particles, and a grain boundary. At least 10% or more of the main-phase particles contain a portion whose Zn concentrations monotonously decrease from a particle surface toward a particle central part along a length of 50 nm or more. The first sub-phase particles contain Zn2SiO4. The second sub-phase particles contain SiO2. A total area ratio of the first sub-phase particles and the second sub-phase particles is 30.5% or more.
Abstract: A method is disclosed for testing hearing in infants based on pupil dilation response. It does not require sedation or depend on subjective judgments of human testers. Pupil dilation response to sound is measured by presenting on a display a visually engaging video containing periodic changes; presenting sounds synchronized with the periodic changes of the video; recording images from a camera directed in front of the display, where the camera is sensitive to infrared wavelengths; processing the images to measure pupil sizes; and processing the measured pupil sizes to determine, statistically, the presence of a pupil dilation response to the sounds.

Abstract: A flexible tube insertion apparatus includes an insertion section including a bending portion and a flexible tube portion, variable stiffness sections which causes a change in a level of a bending stiffness of the flexible tube portion, a variable stiffness control section which controls the change in the bending stiffness of the flexible tube portion by the variable stiffness sections, an image sensor which images a subject in a forward direction of the bending portion, a cavity detection section which detects a presence of a cavity in the forward direction based on an image from the image sensor, and a time setting section that sets a time period. The bending stiffness is switched each time period set by the time setting section when the cavity detection section has detected the presence of the cavity in the forward direction.

An imaging device as disclosed can include a substrate, a first opto-electronic converter having a first area formed in the substrate, and a second opto-electronic converter having a second area formed in the substrate. The first area is larger than the second area. In addition, a light blocking wall can extend from a first surface of the substrate such that at least a portion of the light blocking wall is between the first opto-electronic converter and the second opto-electronic converter.

Abstract: A range-finding device including a light-emitting device, an imaging unit, a calculator, and a controller. The image unit receives pulsed light reflected from an object within the space for a plurality of time periods in a time-division manner, electrically converts the pulsed light into an electrical signal, and accumulates electric charge of the electrical signal for each of the plurality of time periods. The calculator calculates a time difference between emission of the pulsed light and reception of the pulsed light reflected from the object based on the electric charge accumulated for each of the plurality of time periods and determine a distance to the object based on the time difference. The controller controls the timing of reception of the pulsed light for each of the plurality of time periods at the imaging unit according to an intensity of the pulsed light reflected from the object.

Abstract: The present technology relates to an endoscope that makes it possible to acquire a high-resolution medical image with low power consumption. The endoscope includes a camera head including: a first sensor having pixels of a first number of pixels, the first sensor being configured to receive green (G) light that is light with a G wavelength band; and a second sensor having pixels of a second number of pixels smaller than the first number of pixels, the second sensor being configured to receive light different from the G light.
