Patent number: 9458048Abstract: A glass cutter is provided which can form, using a wheel, a uniform crack in glass even when a projection or an earlier-formed scribe line is present on the glass. When the wheel is moved on the glass, a fracture layer is formed causing a rib mark to be formed below the fracture layer and a crack to be formed below the rib mark. To cut the glass, the crack is required to be formed uniformly. Applying a force to resist the rotating force of the wheel makes it possible to form a uniform crack even when a projection is present on the glass. This improves glass cutting yield.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 2015Date of Patent: October 4, 2016Assignees: Japan Display Inc., PANASONIC LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY CO., LTD.Inventors: Susumu Sasaki, Katsunori Kuwaki, Makoto Tatemura, Hiroyuki Tani, Hitoshi Azuma, Tomio Yaguchi, Tatsuo Hamamoto, Hideaki Ishige, Shuji Iwasaki, Katsuyuu Takahashi

Patent number: 7826028Abstract: In order to prevent irreversible deformation of column-shaped spacers which retain the gap between a pair of substrates between which the liquid crystal layer of a liquid crystal display device is interposed, spacers which assist in preventing such irreversible deformation are newly provided. According to the invention, two or more kinds of spacers which differ in height from a reference surface are disposed on one of the pair of substrates. In addition, a step pattern with which the spacers are to come into contact is formed in advance on the other of the pair of substrates so that the heights of the spacers can be made different.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 2008Date of Patent: November 2, 2010Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Hiromasa Shimizu, Tatsuo Hamamoto
