  • Patent number: 4319758
Abstract: A sealing ring comprises a body of revolution about a central axis having in radial cross-section an omega ( ) shape including an arcuate central segment and terminal segments which extend laterally (generally parallel to the central axis) from the opposed ends of the arcuate central segment to a location beyond its peripheral extremities to provide annular sealing edges.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 7, 1979
Date of Patent: March 16, 1982
    Inventor: Terence P. Nicholson
  • Patent number: 4290616
Abstract: A gasket particularly for sealing the joint between the cylinder block and the cylinder head of a dry liner internal combustion engine comprises a pair of outer metal plates (1) having outwardly directed corrugations formed therein and a central composite metal plate (2) disposed between the two outer plates (1); the central composite plate comprises a central soft metal layer and hard metal surface layers which are bonded or integral therewith.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 25, 1980
Date of Patent: September 22, 1981
    Inventor: Terence P. Nicholson
  • Patent number: 4203608
Abstract: A corrugated gasket particularly intended for ensuring liquid and gas tight joints between opposed solid surfaces in automotive engineering has a double waveform section configuration wherein the distance between a plane which contains the apexes of the two waves and a plane parallel thereto which contains the base of the trough between the two waves is significantly less than the distance between the first plane and the base plane of the gasket.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 2, 1978
Date of Patent: May 20, 1980
    Inventor: Terence P. Nicholson
  • Patent number: 4189819
Abstract: For manufacturing a metallic spirally wound gasket having an outer centring ring it is proposed spirally to coil a corrugated strip of metallic material to form a sealing element of desired diameter and to surround the thus formed sealing element with a centring ring which is or has been formed by spirally coiling a metal strip which is of greater thickness than the sealing element strip and has a corrugated cross-section such that adjacent turns of the spiral fit without clearance one against the other.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 6, 1978
Date of Patent: February 26, 1980
    Assignee: Corru-Seals Inc.
    Inventor: Terence P. Nicholson
  • Patent number: 4183403
Abstract: A heat exchanger has a number of corrugated plates arranged one above the other with spaces between them. The two fluids between which heat is to be exchanged flow in counter-flow relationship in alternate spaces between the plates. The plates are arranged so that the flow passages between them are of constant width across the whole flow-section of the heat exchanger, and spacers are mounted on some of the corrugations to maintain the plates the correct distance apart.
