    Abstract: Apparatus and method of controlling strip geometry in casting strip having a rolling mill. A target thickness profile is calculated as a function of the measured entry thickness profile of the strip while satisfying profile and flatness parameters. A differential strain feedback from longitudinal strain in the strip is calculated by a control system by comparing the exit thickness profile with the target thickness profile, and a control signal is generated to control a device capable of affecting the geometry of the strip processed by the hot rolling mill. A feed-forward control reference and/or sensitivity vector may also be calculated as a function of the target thickness profile, and used in generating the control signal sent to the control device. The control device may be selected from one or more of the group consisting of a bending controller, gap controller and coolant controller.

    Abstract: A jacket or similar garment with fixed liner which inlcudes a sleeve configuration such that an opening exists in the fixed liner which provides access to the internal surface of the outer fabric without removal or alteration of the fixed liner. Preferably, this opening is created by an upper flap portion of the fixed liner which extends downwardly beyond and overlaps a lower flap portion, also part of the fixed liner. Side stitching in both the upper flap portion and the lower flap portion tends to reduce the likelihood of twisting and distortion of the fixed liner during use.

This system and method includes creating a signal F generally corresponding to force F.sub.O created by the device and the force F.sub.ECC caused by eccentricity and other variables in phase with the rotation of the backup roll, constructing an analog signal corresponding to the eccentricity signal by using an adaptive digital filter having a first digital input generally corresponding to the eccentricity force F.sub.ECC, a second input correlated with the rotation of the backup roll and a coefficient adjusting algorithm responsive to the first input and a preselected convergence factor (.mu.) and a correlated signal with an incremented value correlated with and driven by the rotation of the backup roll and adjusting the force exerting device by this constructed analog signal.

    Abstract: Angular orientation of a straightener machine roll relative to the vertical axis thereof is achieved through the use of a pair of single acting hydraulic actuators imposing force against a roll support member on laterally opposite sides of a vertical plane through the roll axis, and vertical orientation is achieved through the use of a double acting hydraulic piston and cylinder unit to which the roll support member is attached. Corresponding servo valve mechanisms control fluid flow to the two single acting actuators and to the double acting piston and cylinder units, and both angular orientation and vertical orientation are selectively position or force controlled.
