  • Patent number: 7686855
Abstract: Disclosed are methods for transporting one or more synthetic products produced from a carbonaceous source, such as coal, natural gas, or biomass, which may be located in a location that is remote from markets for such products. The synthetic products may include lower molecular weight alcohols such as methanol, lower molecular weight ethers such as dimethyl ether, olefins and/or the products of a Fischer-Tropsch or other hydrocarbon synthesis. The methods include transport of such synthetic products via a pipeline in the dense phase state, either neat or blended with light hydrocarbons, such as natural gas.

  • Patent number: 7168265
Abstract: An integrated process for producing LNG and GTL products is provided, wherein a CO2-containing natural gas feed to an LNG production zone is first pre-treated to separate at least a portion of the CO2 therefrom, and the resulting CO2 stream obtained thereby is then directed to a GTL production zone and utilized to make GTL products that include methanol and/or methanol derivatives.

  • Publication number: 20040244279
Abstract: The invention is directed to compositions comprising mixtures of natural gas and dimethyl ether suitable for use as fuel compositions, and particularly to blends of dimethyl ether and a natural gas derived from LNG produced in an LNG process. The dimethyl ether can be added, for example, to a lean natural gas to improve the heat value thereof, and in embodiments, the dimethyl ether is conveniently derived from low value CO2 contaminants present in a raw natural gas stream used to prepare LNG. Also disclosed are methods to prepare the mixtures.

  • Patent number: 6324827
Abstract: A method of generating power by passing a dimethyl ether-containing fuel to a dry low NOx combustor of a fired turbine-combustor in the presence of an oxygen-containing gas for combustion in the combustor to form flue gas, and then passing the flue gas to the turbine to generate power, wherein the fuel comprises a mixture of dimethyl ether, at least one alcohol and, optionally, a component selected from the group consisting of water and C1-C6 alkanes. The fuel composition used in the inventive method permits a safe and highly efficient operation of a dry low NOx combustion system, while at the same time, minimizing the generation of NOx and carbon monoxide emissions.

  • Patent number: 5632786
Abstract: A method is described for operating a spark ignition internal combustion engine utilizing an improved composition containing dimethyl ether and propane as fuel. An engine incorporating the invention produces a lesser amount of certain atmospheric pollutants, such as carbon monoxide and unburned hydrocarbons, as compared to the amount of pollutants produced when the engine is operated at identical conditions with propane as fuel. Also described is an improved fuel composition which exhibits a lower vapor pressure than, for example, propane and, therefore, is relatively easier to liquefy and transport.

  • Patent number: 4555395
Abstract: Disclosed are organic treating agents for imparting improved flow properties to hydrides and compositions comprising hydrides treated with an effective amount of an organic compound capable of imparting improved flow properties to said hydride. Also disclosed are methods for improving the flow properties of hydrides comprising treating said hydrides with an organic compound capable of imparting improved flow properties. Said organic treating agent can be in liquid or vapor form and comprises at least one component selected from the group consisting of aliphatic hydrocarbons, alcohols, amines, organic acids and organic acid salts.
