  • Patent number: 4427407
Abstract: A centrifugal bowl separator contains a packet of conical discs having a series of feed discs with an intermediate disc of larger diameter disposed between each adjacent pair of feed discs. The substance to be treated enters a channel at the bottom of the disc packet and the channel discharges only above each feed disc. The material to be treated, namely both the heavy and the lighter components, flows in the spaces above the feed discs, and the heavier component is thrown against the underside of the intermediate disc and is flung from its larger periphery, while the lighter component flows along the upper surface of the feed disc and flows around its edge and out through the space below the feed disc. The spaces between the discs have conductive connection only at the radially outer area.

  • Patent number: 4378906
Abstract: A jacketed centrifuge for exchanging material between liquids, usually a heavier liquid containing suspended solids and a lighter liquid, including a housing in which there is a drum mounted for rotation, and a conveyor worm mounted for rotation coaxially therewith. Inlet and outlet means are provided for introducing a relatively light liquid into the drum, as well as introducing the heavier liquid containing the solids suspended therein. Many of the elements of novelty are centered around the discharge means which are used for discharging solids from the drum. Basically, the drum is enlarged radially in the vicinity of the discharge means and is provided with various types of devices for discharging the solids into the discharge zone in a controlled manner.

  • Patent number: 4313559
Abstract: Centrifuge for separation of a mixture of solid particles, a specifically heavier liquid, and a specifically lighter liquid into the three component parts, having a conveyor helix 3 for moving the solid particles to one end of the drum 1, and, at the other end of the drum, a paring system, i.e. a centripetal pump 18, for removing one of the liquids under pressure and a catchment 24 for the removal of the other liquid without pressure. In order to permit removal of either the heavier phase (FIG. 1) or the lighter phase (FIG. 2) by the paring system a separating disk 6, 7 is disposed adjacent each end of the drum. The separator disks project radially outwardly from the helix and extend through the lighter liquid and partially through the heavier liquid. Each disk is provided with a closable opening at the level of the zone of separation. A weir for the overflow of liquid to go to the catchment 24 is provided by a conduit 21 having an open end disposed adjacent the solids discharge end of the drum.

  • Patent number: 4054244
Abstract: A centrifuge having discharge valves 11 for solids at the periphery of the drum. The valve plug or movable valve body is shielded from the pressure within the drum and is urged to the closed position by centrifugal force developed by the drum. The feed passageways or bores for the control liquid employed to operate the valves are disposed in the drum bottom. Thereby obstructions within the drum are avoided.
