  • Patent number: 9988888
Abstract: A device is proposed for fracturing a geological hydrocarbon reservoir, including two packers defining a confined space therebetween in a well drilled in the reservoir, an apparatus for regulating the temperature of a fluid in the confined space, a pair of two electrodes arranged in the confined space, and an electric circuit to generate an electric arc between the two electrodes. The circuit includes at least one voltage source connected to the electrodes and an inductor coil between the voltage source and one of the two electrodes. This allows improved fracturing of the reservoir.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 3, 2013
Date of Patent: June 5, 2018
    Assignee: Total SA
Inventors: Franck Rey-Bethbeder, Justin Martin, Thierry Reess, Antoine Sylvestre De Ferron
  • Patent number: 9567839
Abstract: A method is provided for fracturing a geological hydrocarbon reservoir, including the static fracturing of the reservoir by hydraulic pressure, and the electrical fracturing of the reservoir by generating an electric arc in a well drilled into the reservoir. This enables the improved fracturing of the reservoir.

    Filed: March 13, 2012
Date of Patent: February 14, 2017
Assignees: TOTAL S.A., UNIVERSITE DE PAU ET DES PAYS DE L'ADOUR
Inventors: Franck Rey-Bethbeder, Antoine Jacques, Justin Martin, Antoine Sylvestre de Ferron, Thierry Reess, Alain Gibert, Olivier Maurel, Christian LaBorderie, Gilles Pijaudier-Cabot
  • Patent number: 9394775
Abstract: A device is provided for fracturing a geological hydrocarbon reservoir including two packers defining between them a confined space in a well drilled in the reservoir; a pump for increasing the pressure of a fluid in the confined space; an apparatus for heating the fluid; at least one pair of two electrodes arranged in the confined space; and an electric circuit for generating an electric arc between the two electrodes, the circuit including at least one voltage source connected to the electrodes and an inductance between the voltage source and one of the two electrodes. The device permits improved fracturing of the reservoir.

  • Patent number: 8518163
Abstract: A device having advantages in terms of equipment maintenance, since it provides maximum limitation of the onset of electric arcing between the electrodes, including a vertical cathode equipped with emissive points, these points being offset at an angle from each other from one plane to another, so as to be optimally distributed in space. One embodiment using two planar anodes, between which several vertical cathodes are arranged equipped with points, is also envisaged.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 17, 2009
Date of Patent: August 27, 2013
Assignees: Commissariat a l'Energie Atomique et aux Energies Alternatives, Universite de Pau et Des Pays de L'Adour
Inventors: Florent Lemont, Antoine Silvestre de Ferron, Thierry Reess, Aldo Russello
