Patent number: 8350721Abstract: A mobile device is associated with navigational information of a client vehicle and provides the navigational information of the client vehicle to an emergency vehicle notification service. The mobile also receives an emergency vehicle message from the emergency vehicle notification service, where the emergency vehicle message includes navigational information of an emergency responder vehicle. The mobile device determines updated navigational information of the client vehicle, and identifies a projected intersection between a path of the emergency responder vehicle and a path of the client vehicle based on the emergency vehicle message and the updated navigational information of the client vehicle. The mobile device generates an alert signal to a user of the mobile device based on the identification of the projected intersection.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 2009Date of Patent: January 8, 2013Assignee: Verizon Patent and Licensing Inc.Inventor: Jeffrey Thomas Carr

Publication number: 20120323285Abstract: A bone screw including a main body portion having a proximal end and a distal end. An external threaded surface and an internal threaded surface are formed on the main body portion. The external threaded surface intersects the internal threaded surface proximate a lower surface of the external threaded surface and a lower surface of the internal threaded surface. A plurality of bone growth apertures is defined on the surface of the main body portion where the external threaded surface and the internal threaded surface are not located. The bone growth apertures comprise between about 10 percent and about 60 percent of the surface of the main body portion.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 11, 2012Publication date: December 20, 2012Applicant: Zyga Technology, Inc.Inventors: Robert L. Patent number: 8311786Abstract: Accurate methods to model the precipitation rate, water delivery spatial distribution, and distribution uniformity for irrigation systems for landscapes are described. A relatively small set of test data is fitted to empirical and physics-based formulas. This permits the extrapolation of test data for an irrigation system with sprinklers being used with any arbitrary specification of operational and environmental variables. The operational variables are the pressure at the sprinkler head, sprinkler model and nozzle choice, range of arc operation, throw adjustment, head tilt, run time, and spatial position. The environmental variables are the wind profile and three-dimensional terrain topology. The; invention predicts the surface distributions and the three-dimension spatial distributions.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 2009Date of Patent: November 13, 2012Inventors: Geza Kisch, Tim Francis Lindsey, Thomas Carr

Patent number: 8213962Abstract: A method is implemented by a mobile device associated with a short-range wireless network in a vehicle. The method includes identifying a paired device within the short-range wireless network, the paired device having access to a vehicle information system, and receiving, from the paired device, vehicle status information from the vehicle information system. The mobile device determines if the vehicle status information triggers a safety mode for the mobile device and disables particular features or components of the mobile device based on the determination.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 2009Date of Patent: July 3, 2012Assignee: Verizon Patent and Licensing Inc.Inventor: Jeffrey Thomas Carr

Publication number: 20120011083Abstract: A software identification manager selects a unique software module that corresponds to a single knowledge base software product. Next, the software identification manager determines that one or more software modules included in a raw inventory corresponds to the unique software module and, in turn, the software identification manager includes the single knowledge base software product into a refined group of knowledge base software products. The software identification manager then matches one of the knowledge base software products included in the refined group of knowledge base software products to one of the related raw inventory software modules. Once the software identification manager identifies a match, the software identification manager stores a module identification entry in a storage area and associates the matched raw inventory software module to the matched knowledge base software product.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 8, 2010Publication date: January 12, 2012Applicant: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Thomas Carr Storms, Steven R. Patent number: 8054932Abstract: A filter medium for strainers used in the emergency sump of a nuclear power plant ECCS. The filter medium is employed with double wall, concentric tube type strainer modules. The filter medium is preferably constructed of a woven or knitted stainless steel wire material and is shaped in a cylinder so that it can be inserted between two concentric strainer walls, concentric tube type strainer in such a manner that water that passes through the strainer must pass through and be filtered by the filter medium before the water can be pumped to the reactor core. The filter medium is inserted through the bottom of the strainer module and is held in place by an x-shaped retainer. The filter creates varied approach velocity of the fluid and results in non-uniform fibrous debris accumulation on the strainer, insuring acceptable strainer debris hydraulic head loss.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 2009Date of Patent: November 8, 2011Assignee: Enercon Services, Inc.Inventors: James Aaron Smith, Atul Harihar Patel, Louis Thomas Carr, Jr.

Patent number: 7289530Abstract: A system and method are provided for coding a frame in a packet communications system using a G.709 Digital Wrapper Frame format. The method comprises: accepting digital information; outer encoding the digital information with a Reed Solomon (RS) encoding scheme; interleaving the outer encoded information; inner encoding the interleaved information using a BCH encoding scheme; and, forming a G.709 Digital Wrapper frame including payload and parity bytes. More specifically, a standard DW superframe is formed with 122,368 bits of payload and 8192 bits of parity. The outer encoding process uses an RS(1023,1007) parent code. In one aspect, 15 groups of RS(781,765) and 1 group of RS(778,762) codewords are formed per superframe. The inner encoding process uses a BCH(2047,1959) parent code. In one aspect, 64 groups of BCH(2040,1952) codewords are formed per superframe.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 2003Date of Patent: October 30, 2007Assignee: Applied Micro Circuits CorporationInventors: Warm Shaw Yuan, Daniel M. Publication number: 20070061179Abstract: Disclosed herein is an integrated method and system for managing human resources. Specifically, the method and system integrates several processes (e.g., a process for developing a strategy and particularly for developing a set of rules on how human resources will be managed and sourced, a process for developing a long-term strategic plan for sourcing human resources to satisfy demands, a process for developing a near-term operational plan recommending individual human resources be used to satisfy selected demands, a process for selecting and assigning individual resources to specific engagements, etc.). Thus, the method operates through a spectrum of time horizons from the strategic to real time, providing a coherent and cohesive system for matching supply to demand based on the priorities of the business as represented through the set of rules.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 9, 2005Publication date: March 15, 2007Applicant: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Mark Henderson, Thomas Carr, Brian Eck, Philip Garofolo, Mark Weber
