Abstract: A method includes the steps of: providing a computer based raster data search system; providing raster data; providing one or more search models as a search criteria; receiving as input the raster data; transforming by computer the raster data into a mathematical representation of the appearance of the raster data; storing the mathematical representation of the appearance of the raster data as a set of models in a database; comparing by computer at least one search model to the set of models in the database; and generating a result which indicates a likelihood of a similarity to the search criteria in the raster data. A system to perform the method is also described.
