  • Patent number: 5601567
Abstract: A multi-piece trial femoral component kit for use in sizing a femoral cavity prior to implantation of a prosthetic femoral implant. The trial femoral component kit has at least two distal trial components of different size and two proximal trial components of different size and mating elements which allow the proximal and distal components to be releasably coupled to form a femoral trial prosthesis. The distal trial component combines with the proximal trial component to form the stem of the femoral trial prosthesis, the joint of the two components located in the circumferential area between the gluteal tuberosity and about 2" below the pectineal line of the femur when the femoral trial is inserted within the femur. The distal and proximal components may further include means for selectively combining the proximal and distal components to form a femoral trial prosthesis that corresponds to an available prosthetic femoral implant.

  • Patent number: 5100407
Abstract: A multi-piece trial femoral component kit is used for preparing and sizing a femoral cavity prior to implantation of a prosthetic femoral component. The trial component kit has at least three trial stem portions of differing size and at least three trial body portions of different size. The stem and body portions include mating male and female elements which allow the stem portions to be securely coupled to the body portions. In order to ensure that the so-coupled stem and body portions form a trial femoral component having a size equal to an available orthopedic femoral implant, the male and female elements include a key and keyway which are sized so that only trial stem and body portions resulting in an available femoral implant can be combined and used as a trial femoral component.

  • Patent number: 4650491
Abstract: A socket insert component of an acetabular cup prosthesis is held securely within its support shell by a locking mechanism comprising a circumferential groove in the shell concavity perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the concavity, a first circumferential rib on the outer surface of the insert congruent with the groove, and a second circumferential rib on the outer surface of the insert parallel to and proximate the first rib, the first rib snapping into the groove and the second rib being deformed and pressed against the concavity when the insert and shell are assembled.
