    Abstract: A high-efficiency, enhanced, generator-absorber heat exchange (EnGAX) cycle, particularly useful in gas-fired, air-cooled absorption heat pumps, increases the heat output of the absorber in the temperature overlap range with the generator to equal the heat usable by the generator. This is accomplished by establishing a solution pathway from a portion of the absorber in the temperature overlap region to a portion of the generator in order to increase solution flow in the high temperature regions of the absorber and generator. Further improvements in cycle efficiency are obtainable by increasing the operating pressure of the absorber.

    Abstract: A high efficiency space conditioning process and apparatus for heating and cooling utilizing an absorption cycle in the nature of absorption heat pumps for heating and cooling. The invention provides a process and apparatus having a higher Coefficient of Performance than conventional absorption heat pumps by utilization of a substantially saturated salt solution cycle between at least one pair of: (1) an absorber and generator, or (2) a condenser and evaporator, wherein the salt is crystallized to the solid phase in the generator or evaporator, respectively, and the heat of crystallization is utilized for refrigerant vaporization occurring simultaneously.

    Abstract: A hybrid physical-chemical absorbent process using the interrelation between a physical solvent and a H.sub.2 S selective chemical solvent for removal of CO.sub.2 and sulfur containing compounds, principally H.sub.2 S from a mixed gas stream. This process is especially useful in processes such as coal gasification where the incoming stream to the acid gas removal process is at about 1100 psia, 70.degree. F., contains about 15 to 40 mole percent CO.sub.2 at a mole ratio of CO.sub.2 /H.sub.2 S of about 25 to 50. In such cases the product stream contains less than 1 ppm sulfur and less than 3 mole percent CO.sub.2 which is suitable for production of substitute natural gas while the CO.sub.2 atmospheric effluent contains less than 7 ppm sulfur.
