  • Patent number: 6391065
Abstract: A water-dilutable UV light absorber composition and method for improving the lightfastness of dyed textiles is provided. The composition includes from about 5-75% by weight of an ultraviolet light absorbing agent selected from the group consisting of benzotriazole, benzophenone, and phenol substituted triazine; and from about 25-95% by weight of an organic solvent suitable for dissolving the ultraviolet light absorbing agent. The ultraviolet light absorbing agent is applied to the textiles in a concentration sufficient to result in an add-on in the range of between 0.4-4.0% by weight of the textiles when dry.

  • Patent number: 6110231
Abstract: A method of applying a surface coating to an intermediate textile product to enhance the performance of the textile product in a downstream manufacturing process. The method includes the steps of preparing an application composition having a process-enhancing material, an acid-decomposable emulsifier and an acid; emulsifying the application composition in a water bath to improve the surface activity of the process-enhancing material; exposing the intermediate textile product to the water bath containing the application composition; and decomposing the emulsifier into non-surface active substances simultaneously with the step of applying the application composition to the intermediate textile product to thereby permit the process-enhancing material to exhaust onto the textile product.

  • Patent number: 5223165
Abstract: A method of suppressing the generation or persistence of dust is provided. An aqueous composition of a higher alkyl glycoside is placed in contact with a friable solid material (e.g. coal) to suppress the generation of dust thereform. The alkyl glycoside is generally present in the aqueous composition at a level of from about 0.001% by weight to about 1% by weight of the aqueous composition. Because of the nature of this particular use, highly colored compositions can be employed in the method. A composition used as a dust suppressant comprised of a higher alkyl glycoside and a hydrophilic binder material is also provided.

  • Patent number: 4460480
Abstract: The present invention relates to novel oligomers of the formula R.sub.f --E--S--M.sub.1 ].sub.x [M.sub.2 ].sub.y H, and mixutes thereof, wherein R.sub.f is a perfluoroalkyl group, E is a linkage group, --M.sub.1 -- represents a hydrophilic monomer unit, --M.sub.2 -- represents a hydrophobic monomer unit, x and y represent the number of monomer units present in the novel oligomers. The sum of x and y is between 4 and 500 and x/(x+y) is between 1 and 0.5. The novel oligomers are useful as additives in protein foam type fire fighting compositions improving foam expansion, foam drainage and extinguishing times and reducing flammability of hydrocarbon contaminated protein foams. The novel oligomers are further useful as surface tension depressants providing improved wetting, spreading and leveling properties in aqueous systems.
