  • Patent number: 8135537
Abstract: A route data base generating system avoids GPS satellite signals sources for land based vehicle azimuth and heading determinations in areas where reception of the satellite signals is unavailable or impaired and relies on vehicle part movements that are equatable to the heading and azimuth changes of the vehicle for determining such vehicle orientations. Part movements equatable to the heading changes are found in the vehicle wheel assemblies. A route data base founded on interconnecting linear route segments that are arranged in and end-to-end serial order is advocated and wherein the angular deviation between connecting segments in the order is predetermined. Various uses of the generating systems and related procedures are advocated for both on-the-road and off-road usage.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 16, 2009
Date of Patent: March 13, 2012
Inventors: Roger L. Martin, Thurman Sasser

  • Patent number: 5630068
Abstract: A communication system for a marketing area locates a light signal generating system and a master computer at a control center and delivers message bearing light signals over optical channels to predetermined subdivisions of the marketing area. Message relay units are provided on the shopping carts in the marketing area for transmitting audio and/or visual messages to the shopper. Among the visual messages transmitted are those which visually display a list of items available for purchase and on display in the marketing area, a graphics display of the marketing area and the merchandise display facilities therein, a video picture which is often of a product or item available for purchase in the marketing area and a traveling word message.

  • Patent number: 5324038
Abstract: A device for monitoring a golfer's errant hand movements involves a hand position sensing element, a circuit for establishing a circuit condition which is indicative of a preferred hand position, a circuit for detecting changes in the established circuit condition and providing outputs that are indicative of errant pivotal hand movements, and a signals generating circuit for providing perceivable signals that are indicative of such errant movements. Various circuit controls are provided in the device and a training system is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5052799
Abstract: A reference signal used for orienting an object has a beam of electromagnetic radiation with a first signal component that is a rotating component and also a second signalcomponent which is periodically generated when the first signal component is in a predetermined direction. The beam may be a linearly polarized laser light beam with a rotating plane of polarization, an unpolarized laser light beam with a rotating and shaped image of predetermined configuration, or a linearly polarized microwave beam with a rotating plane of polarization. The second signal component may be generated as a component of the beam bearing the first signal component or separately generated and propagated. Provisions are made for receiving and comparing the direction indicated by the reference signal with the direction of the object to be oriented and the information derived from the comparison is analyzed and processed to provide an output signal that useful in orienting the object.

  • Patent number: 4677639
Abstract: A laser device having an improved resonator utilizes a single rigid base component for a light reflector coating that defines and forms the end terminals of the resonator cavity, means being provided for translating and reflecting the laser beam between linear light paths that respectively terminate at the mirror surfaces provided by the coating. Various embodiments are shown and in which one or more prisms are used to fold the laser beam between offset and parallel light paths. The end terminal forming mirror surfaces may be coplanar and face in a common direction in the base component, or the mirror surfaces may be provided on opposite side surfaces of the component. Where the base component is made from transparent material the terminals may also be defined by the inside and outside surfaces of the coating. The use of figured surfaces in the unitary structure is contemplated and the use of mirror clusters for folding the beam is also contemplated.

  • Patent number: 4418996
Abstract: An apparatus for generating and projecting a bright, narrow, color selectable beam of light has a light source for producing a beam of light directed into a collimating lens and from the collimating lens into a prism. The prism disperses the light into a plurality of color components which are directed into a movable focusing lens for focusing the dispersed light into one of a plurality of positions onto an aperture to thereby select one or more color components of light through the aperture responsive to the positioning of the focusing lens. The focusing lens is moved responsive to an electric motor, which moves responsive to a voltage signal. The selected color component may be further collimated and directed against a series of movable mirrors for generating a variety of scanned patterns of colored light onto a flat surface. The moving spot of light will appear as patterns due to the persistence of the eye which blends the fast moving spot into long continuous lines.
