Patent number: 4222251Abstract: An additional locking system is provided for a combination lock. The combination lock includes a housing, a locking mechanism and a bolt in the housing movable between a first position projecting out of the housing and a second position generally withdrawn in the housing. The bolt can be moved to the second position only when the locking mechanism is in an unlocked condition. The additional locking system provides an additional lock for the bolt in the first position, and a heat responsive member prevents the additional locking system from locking the bolt until the housing is heated above a predetermined temperature. The additional locking system includes a spring with an arm thereon in the housing. The bolt includes a slot and the spring is mounted such that the arm is adjacent the slot, and the spring biases the arm toward the slot. The heat responsive member is a fuse in the housing urging the spring against the biasing to hold the arm out of the slot.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 1978Date of Patent: September 16, 1980Assignees: Klaus W. Patent number: 4197726Abstract: A dial for a combination lock extends through a disc mounted on the housing for supporting the dial. A pair of interchangeable members, one being used at a time, are used in conjunction with the dial. The first interchangeable member is a spacer mounted on the disc between the dial and the disc for spacing the dial from the disc and covering a portion of the disc. The second interchangeable member is a cover mounted over the disc. The cover has a window through which the dial can be seen. The window includes a lens with thin plates therein for directing light from the dial in a certain path so that the dial can only be seen from one position. The cover has members for securing the lens in the window so that it is not easily removed therefrom.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 1977Date of Patent: April 15, 1980Assignee: La Gard, Inc.Inventor: Tim M. Patent number: 4117763Abstract: Method and apparatus for decoding and duplicating a key wherein the notches in the shank of the key are coded to a predetermined coded depth and spacing therebetween. An index card having a sequential index thereon corresponding to the predetermined coded depth is inserted into a housing and the key to be duplicated is inserted into a slot in the housing where it engages an indexing member which enters one of the notches on the key and indicates on the card the coded depth of that notch. The angle of cut of the same notch may also be determined. The remaining notches of the key may be decoded in like manner. The same index card is then inserted into a housing associated with a grinding wheel. The depth of the cut made by a grinding wheel on the blank key is indicated on the card by a pointer pivotally secured in the housing. In an alternate embodiment, the same index card is inserted into a housing and the position of the key to be duplicated is calibrated with respect to the grinding wheel.Type: GrantFiled: July 8, 1976Date of Patent: October 3, 1978Assignee: Klaus W. The same index card is then inserted into a housing which includes an indexing drum having notches therein with spacing therebetween corresponding to the predetermined coded spacing of the key to be duplicated. A blank key is firmly secured in a predetermined position on the housing and movable in a direction toward a grinding wheel.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 1976Date of Patent: May 23, 1978Assignee: La Gard, Inc.Inventor: Tim M. Patent number: 4062210Abstract: Improvements in time locks for use in safes, vaults, or the like wherein the lock includes a clockwork mechanism which can be preset to a time until which the safe or vault cannot be opened. The improvements include improved means for bypassing the clockwork mechanism should one be locked inside the safe or vault on which the lock is installed. An improved simplified housing is provided for the time lock so that the entire lock need not be disassembled if there is a malfunction of the clockwork mechanism. Improved viewing means for the time lock are provided so that the face of the clockwork mechanism can be viewed from a convenient location above and at an angle to the face of the clockwork mechanism. An anti-tampering mechanism prevents the locking bolt from being released even if the device in which the lock is installed is dropped or vibrated. Finally, various other improvements are presented in other parts of the lock, such as the release lever assembly for releasing the locking bolt.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 1976Date of Patent: December 13, 1977Assignee: Sargent & Greenleaf, Inc.Inventor: Tim M. Patent number: 3968667Abstract: A combination lock of the type having peripherally gated tumbler wheels rotating about a common axis and adjusted by a rotatable dial and driving cam assembled on a spindle and supported for axial as well as rotary movement, the lock has an over-center spring coupled to a fence lever which normally holds the fence lever at a raised inactive position and has a fence lever accelerator which includes an anvil surface portion and a hammer portion supported by a spring formation which is stressed to an energy storage position responsive to rotation of the driving cam so that the hammer portion can be released from that position to impact against the anvil surface and impel the fence lever toward the driving cam to cause the fence lever to shift to a lowered coupled condition with the driving cam if the tumbler wheels are properly aligned and to cause it to be spring returned to the raised inactive position if they are not properly aligned.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 1975Date of Patent: July 13, 1976Assignee: Sargent & Greenleaf, Inc.Inventors: Klaus W. Patent number: 3967783Abstract: The shower spray apparatus has a hollow housing with three spray exit openings in a common face, two for normal spray and the third for pulsating spray. Incoming pressurized water is fed into a diverter which includes a slide valve adjustable to proportion the flow of water along either of two paths exclusively, or in a continuous variable range between the two paths. The first path of fluid flow from the slide valve terminates in the two normal spray exit openings, while water flowing along the second flow path drives a turbine and exits via openings in the pulsating outlet. The rotating turbine includes a mask which sequentially covers and uncovers the spray outlet to provide the pulsating output. A knob on the spray apparatus housing is adjustably rotatable to operate a slide valve throughout a full range of adjustment, providing either all normal spray, all pulsating spray or any ratio therebetween.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 1975Date of Patent: July 6, 1976Assignee: Chicago Specialty Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Milton Halsted, Tim M.
