  • Patent number: 9787453
Abstract: In an ad hoc network a feedback radio resource maps from a data radio resource to at least one frequency sub-band which the data resource excludes. The feedback resource is also spaced in time from the data resource by a predetermined interval. Feedback (ACK/NACK) for data received in the data resource is then sent in the feedback resource. In various embodiments the sub-band is one or more edges of the data resource channel, or edges of a component carrier. The predetermined interval may be a function of how much of the data resource is occupied by data. The data transmitting device delays sending its data by a time offset from the end of a previous transmission on that channel, or if it does not know the end time it delays until the predetermined interval plus the length of the feedback resource have lapsed. Various synchronization aspects are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 9380442
Abstract: The specification and drawings present a new method, apparatus and software related product (e.g., a computer readable memory) for implementing a D2D discovery resource allocation by a network for D2D discovery by UEs belonging to multiple cells in a D2D discovery area, e.g., in LTE wireless systems. A network such as LTE may determine an allocation of one or more resources (UL and/or DL) for a device-to-device discovery among a plurality of UEs located in multiple cells of the network in a D2D discovery area. The allocation of the one or more resources is then may be provided by the network to the plurality of UEs for performing, using these one or more resources, the D2D discovery between any two UEs of the plurality of UEs located in the multiple cells in the D2D discovery area.

  • Patent number: 9198137
Abstract: There is stored in a memory an association between each nth one of N content types with a respective nth group of N groups of identifiers (N is an integer greater than one, n indexes from 1 to N, and at least one of the groups has more than one identifier). A beacon sender selects one of the content types for a beacon to be transmitted and selects a beacon identifier from the group associated with the selected content type. The beacon to be transmitted is compiled to include content of the selected content type and the selected beacon identifier. The beacon receiver selects at least one of the content types; and for a plurality of beacons received, filters out from further processing each beacon having a beacon identifier that is not within the group of identifiers associated with any of the at least one selected content types. The network creates the association and broadcasts it in a network cell.

  • Patent number: 9144098
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed that performs operations including determining whether an application message meets a predetermined set of criteria. If the application message meets the set, the application message is transmitted via a first communication layer pathway between the apparatus and one or more other apparatuses participating in a device-to-device communication with the apparatus. If the application message does not meet the set, the application message is transmitted via a second communication layer pathway between the apparatus and the other apparatus. The first and second communication layer pathways are different. The first pathway may be an L1 physical control channel while the second pathway may be an L1 physical data channel. The first pathway may be a first L2 logical channel while the second pathway may be a second L2 logical channel. Methods and program products are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 9131471
Abstract: A fixed or Mode II device enables a Mode I device for license exempt operation by providing to it a list of available license exempt radio channels and a parameter indicating an interval at which contact verification signals CVSs are to be sent. The CVSs verify whether the list remains valid. The fixed/Mode II device then repeatedly sends contact verification signals spaced in time from one another according to the interval. In various embodiments the parameter may be an explicit indication, or it may be implicit. A plurality of enabled Mode I devices each gets a device-specific list, and in one embodiment the interval is the same for each of them and the explicit indication is broadcast while in another the parameter is provided to each of them via unicast messages and the interval may differ.

  • Publication number: 20150195777
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product provide improved detection of overlapping wireless networks. In this regard, the method, apparatus and computer program product may utilize a processor, such as a processor on a wireless access point, to determine one or more parameters for a scan of a wireless network to identify overlapping networks. Wireless stations may utilize the parameters to determine the content of a scan report generated from a scan of the wireless network. The wireless stations may further utilize the parameters to determine which values should be monitored and/or recorded during the scan of the network. The wireless stations may respond to the access point with results corresponding to the parameters requested by the access point, and the access point may use the results to determine channel access parameters for other devices on the network, such as the wireless stations.

  • Patent number: 8849290
Abstract: The specification and drawings present a method, apparatus and software related product (e.g., a computer readable memory) for improving device discovery and D2D operation, e.g., in LTE wireless systems, by using control signaling provided by a wireless network (e.g., by an eNB). The discovery channel/channels which conveys discovery signal/signals are configured by a network (e.g., by the eNB) and are mapped to control channel/channels (e.g., one-to-one). After sending/receiving the discovery signal/signals, the D2D devices are monitoring control channel/channels to get current information for establishing the D2D communication among these D2D devices, the current information may include a resource allocation for the D2D communication and a device list of candidates for establishing the D2D communication.
