    Abstract: A buffer status reporting scheme for a terminal (10) wishing to transmit data simultaneously in multiple RATs of a wireless communication network, which enables the co-ordination of multiple base stations (12, 14) of different RATs (e.g. LTE eNB, UMTS base station, WiFi access point, etc.) with the assistance of the terminal (10) in order to achieve efficient radio resource scheduling for multi-RAT multi-flow aggregation in uplink. A radio bearer is configured for multi-RAT multi-flow aggregation by the network, and multiple logical channel IDs are assigned to this RB that may be associated with different RATs. Logical channels associated with a certain RAT (or a given set of RATs) may be grouped into one logical channel group for radio resource scheduling reason. The terminal (10) performs buffer status reporting, according to the configuration, on all involved RATs and sends reports/indications to one or more involved base stations (12.14).

The device (10) may notify the network that an access request is occurring from a device that was either specifically allowed to use a stored access configuration or is accessing the cell using modified system information being broadcast by the cell. Such notification may be implicit in the characteristics (choice of preamble, timing, frequency and/or repetition) of the access request. The network, preferably having knowledge of the method being used by the device to access the network, can either reject this access or accept it depending on whether the access was from a stored configuration or read from System Information.

    Abstract: A method in a 5G wireless communication system to transmit a beam ID or part of a beam ID by joint design of a secondary synchronization sequence (SSS) and Physical Broadcast Channel (PBCH). In 5G during the initial access procedure a terminal (10) will try to obtain fundamental system information/identifiers which are required for future signal transmission/reception activities. Due to the extensive usage of beamforming techniques in 5G, besides identifying a cell ID and obtaining time/frequency synchronization, the terminal (10) may be required to identify a beam ID during the initial access procedure. Therefore, a beam ID is transmitted as part of synchronization signals (SS) broadcast by a gNB (20), more particularly as part of SSS or as part of PBCH. The synchronization signals may be transmitted as a set of SS blocks, each having an index, which may be a time index, for facilitating identification.

    Abstract: A 5G wireless communication system will have very wide bandwidth in the extremely high carrier frequency region, more than one channel raster value is employed for wide bandwidth configurations. With this method a terminal can have a coarse initial scan for first synchronisation signals of cells over the whole available bandwidth as a first synchronization step, and obtain necessary information for a finer resolution scan to detect a second synchronization signal of a cell in the second synchronization step. Based on the second detection, the terminal can find system information needed to connect to the cell. Additionally, different synchronization sequences can be used for different carrier frequencies, hence the design and application of the synchronization sequences can take into account the properties of the carrier frequency such as delay spread and path loss. Frequency division multiplexing can be applied to synchronization sequences of neighbouring cells to avoid interference.

The terminal management entity creates a service ID for a service to be provided to the virtual terminal, the service ID being shared by the one or more independent devices, each having its own device ID. The TME forms an association of the virtual terminal with the network through use of a multi-homing transport protocol such as SCTP, the association supporting the service by using the service ID. For service delivery, paging and handover purposes the devices of the virtual terminal are treated as a single entity by the TME.

In a “Small Cell” scenario for 3GPP LTE, a terminal may be simultaneously served by a macro cell and one or more small cells. These may operate at different frequencies, have different traffic loading and support different QoS (Quality of Service). The invention allows independent control of traffic on the uplinks to the macro cell and the small cells, which can be used to optimize the user experience in relation to the available resources at any given time/location, and allows particular data to be routed via particular cells.

    Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a new way for a UE to autonomously indicate to the network from which transmission points (TPs) it is able to receive certain broadcast signals. As an example, by receiving in a broadcast signal in the form of a synchronization sequence, the physical identity of a particular TP, a UE infers when it should, if it wishes, send on an UL an indication of its ability to receive the broadcast signal from that TP—i.e., an indication of its presence in the coverage of the TP. The network is then able to take suitable action in response to this, such as adjusting network coverage, enabling or disabling other broadcast channels and controlling paging.
