  • Patent number: 5757360
Abstract: A compact convenient hand-held, accelerometer-based computer control device s utilized to control on-screen animated characters presented by a computer-driven display in which the movement, persona, or style of the character is controlled through movement of the device in a predetermined pattern which results in recognizable patterns of accelerations that are detected to give the on-screen character a particular persona or style determined by the user. Thus, the system requires only a series of easily learned hand movement patterns for corresponding character control. In an alternative embodiment, once a movement has been determined, the style or emotional content of the movement is specified directly from gross accelerometer output without pattern matching. In another embodiment, the outputs of two or more accelerometers are combined, with the combined waveforms constituting a language for graphical object control.

  • Patent number: 5347306
Abstract: A network-based animated electronic meeting place is provided for business meetings, education, simulated classrooms, casual encounters, personal meetings, art auctions, parties and game playing, which includes a terminal for each participant on the network and local prestored animation graphics, with simulated participants in the form of animated characters or dolls being driven through sensing of each of the participants at their respective work stations, including their position, posture, gestures, audio content and optionally that persona which each individual wishes to be displayed at the animated electronic meeting place. In one embodiment, a user chooses how he represents himself on the screen through the use of a Persona or Character control.

  • Patent number: 4234902
Abstract: A lightning arrester enclosed in a grounded metal enclosure filled with SF.sub.6 includes six nonlinear resistors of sintered ZnO serially interconnected in superposed relationship between a high voltage conductor and the enclosure through a cylindrical high voltage conductor. The resistors are divided into three equal units and two shield discs are interposed between the adjacent units and connected to respective hollow cylindrical conductors coaxially disposed in radially spaced relationship around the cylindrical high voltage conductor.

  • Patent number: 4219862
Abstract: A stack of nonlinear resistors of sintered zinc oxide superposing one another is connected across a bottom of a grounded cylindrical housing and a high voltage conductor insulatingly supported by the housing. Within the housing a shielding conductor slantingly hangs from the connection of the stack and conductor. Alternatively, the shielding electrode may extend from the high voltage conductor to run along the longitudinal axis of the housing. A plurality of nonlinear resistors are divided in several stacks and serially interconnected between the shielding conductor and the inside of the housing to be radially outward inclined to the shielding electrode. Such stacks may be disposed close to the free end portion of the shielding electrode.

  • Patent number: 4095204
Abstract: A transformer having a forced air cooling system is disclosed. The transformer includes an insulating oil which is forcibly moved in the transformer and an insulating sheet which is partially covered with particles, fibers or other forms of an inorganic material for producing a static charge of opposite polarity to the charge produced by the base material of the insulating sheet caused by relative motion due to forced flow of the insulating oil.
