  • Patent number: 7454222
Abstract: An apparatus and method for controlling wireless communication signals is provided, in which a wireless transmitter in a communication network generates a signal carrying data for wireless transmission, and is capable of varying the data carrying capacity of the wireless transmission channel in response to the quantity of data received for wireless transmission. A monitor is provided to monitor the quantity of received data and the capacity of the communication channel is increased if the monitored quantity exceeds a predetermined threshold. The capacity of the communication channel can be varied by varying the level of modulation and/or by varying the level of code inserted into the data stream. The output power of the wireless transmission signal may be varied in response to the quantity of received data.

  • Patent number: 7327688
Abstract: A computer communications network comprises a plurality of interconnected ATM switches forming a WAN or LAN area network over which ATM cells are transmitted, and a plurality of user devices including LAN interface adapters for connection to one or more to local area networks (LANs). An interface device connects at least some of the respective ATM switches to the LAN interface adapters. The interface adapts the ATM cells for transport over the LANS. The user devices can thus communicate through the LAN interface adapters transparently with the wide area network.

Date of Patent: February 5, 2008
    Assignee: Alcatel Canada Inc.
Inventors: Wayne Burwell, Dave Coomber, Tom Duxbury, Nutan Behki, Keith Galway, James Watt, Duncan Glendinning, Eugene Zywicki

  • Publication number: 20020034220
Abstract: A communication system is provided for Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) communications comprising a radio transmitter for receiving a DSL signal and having a converter for converting the DSL signal into an RF signal for wireless transmission. A radio receiver is arranged to receive the RF signal containing the DSL signal and convert the RF signal into the original DSL signal for continued transmission.

  • Patent number: 5563876
Abstract: The invention provides a very fast distributed frame relay switch. Each switching element is tied to each other switching element using LAN like FDDI technology. Frame relay packets arrive into the switch via lower speed TDM based trunks and can either be switched locally within the same switching element or can be switched to a remote switching element via the FDDI bus. The switching elements themselves reside in a TDM based multiplexer, thus can utilize existing TDM interfaces.

  • Patent number: 5546378
Abstract: A wiring hub for interconnecting a plurality of switching units, includes a plurality of interface modules for connection to respective external switching units in a dual-attached connection, and a dual FDDI ring interconnecting the interface modules. The interface modules include a switching element operable to bypass each switching unit or insert it on the ring in a dual-attached connection. The switching element automatically switches the interface module to its bypass state when a switching unit is disconnected from the wiring hub.
