  • Patent number: 8871410
Abstract: The present invention pertains to a pattern phase difference film, which is used to display 3D images using a passive system, and provides a method for producing a pattern phase difference film that can be manufactured with high precision, easily and in large quantities. In a mask provided for manufacturing an alignment film, slits, which are provided for exposure treatment, are made so as to gradually narrow toward the ends in the longitudinal direction.

  • Patent number: 7652732
Abstract: There are provided a substrate which has solved an unsatisfactory adhesion problem of a seal part in a liquid crystal cell comprising a retardation layer provided on the inner side of the cell, and a liquid crystal cell using the substrate. A black matrix layer 12 formed of a metal and its picture frame part 12A, a color filter layer 13, and a retardation layer 14 are stacked on a substrate 11, and an area including at least the picture frame part 12A is an area to be sealed.

  • Patent number: 7643109
Abstract: There are provided a substrate which has solved an unsatisfactory adhesion problem of a seal part in a liquid crystal cell comprising a retardation layer provided on the inner side of the cell, and a liquid crystal cell using the substrate. A color filter substrate includes a substrate 11, and at least a black matrix layer 12, a color filter layer 13, and a retardation layer 14 stacked on the substrate 11. The black matrix layer 12 and the color filter layer 13 are stacked on the substrate it while providing a margin around the periphery of the substrate 11. The retardation layer 14 is stacked on the black matrix layer 12 and the color filter layer 13 in a larger area than the area where the black matrix layer 12 and the color filter layer 13 are stacked. The substrate 11 in its margin, where neither the black matrix layer 12 nor the color filter layer 13 is stacked, is a predetermined seal area.

  • Patent number: 7575786
Abstract: A process for producing an optical element having a patterned quarter-wave retardation for use in a semitransmission reflection liquid crystal display device is provided. The process includes the steps of coating a coating liquid including a polymerizable liquid crystal onto a base material to form a coating film, aligning the polymerizable liquid crystal to a liquid crystal phase state, applying an ionizing radiation to the coating film through a photomask to polymerize the polymerizable liquid crystal in the liquid crystal phase state, whereby the polymerizable liquid crystal only in its exposed part is cured to form the liquid crystal layer, and heating the resultant substrate with the coating film formed thereon to bring the polymerizable liquid crystal in the uncured state to an isotropic phase state and, in this state, to polymerize the uncured polymerizable liquid crystal to form an isotropic layer.
