    Abstract: An adaptive front-lighting system includes lamp deflection angle controlling means having a steering angle sensor for detecting a steering direction of a vehicle and supplying a signal and controlling a deflection angle of a lamp based on sensor outputs from the steering angle sensor. The lamp deflection angle controlling means includes an arithmetic control means for calculating a time series moving average of the output from the steering angle sensor. Averaging the output from the steering angle sensor on the time axis in the arithmetic circuit means enables to obtain outputs having smaller step widths than step widths of the outputs from the steering angle sensor, and controlling the deflection angle of the lamp based on the output enables to control the deflection angle of the lamp with the minute step widths.

    Abstract: A lighting system for vehicles including a plurality of dimmer lamps, a steering sensor, and an electronic control unit (ECU). The dimmer lamps are provided at the front of a vehicle in its moving direction, and their radiated ranges differ from each other and their quantity of light also varies, according to the steering angle as sensed by the steering sensor. The ECU changes the combination of radiated ranges of the lamps to realize light distribution control ahead and sideways of a vehicle by turning-on/off the lamps, as well as changes the quantity of light of each lamp according to the wheel steering angle. The ECU sequentially turns on the lamps according to the steering angle and increases the corresponding quantity of radiation in proportion to the magnitude of the steering angle. Thus, the radiated range gradually expands in the vehicle's turning direction and its brightness gradually increases.

    Abstract: A control circuit for automobile headlamps which emit light in variable color. The control circuit prevents left and right headlamps from emitting beams of light in different colors. Each headlamp includes a white light bulb, and a yellow globe is moved from a first position to a second position to cover the bulb when yellow light is selected, and the yellow globe is moved back to the first position when white light is selected. If the movement of the globe stops between the first and second positions, the control circuit generates a fault signal for turning off the headlamp associated with the fault, thus preventing the headlamps from emitting light of different colors. Alternatively, the control circuit can adjust the position of the globe for the headlamp without the fault to be in agreement with the position with the headlamp having the fault, such that both headlamps emit light of the same color.

    Abstract: A glare sensor includes a light condensing means for condensing light beams from the fore scene and photo sensing element for sensing the light beams from the light condensing means. The photo sensing element is constructed with photodiodes. Blue filters are selectively coupled with the photodiodes. With provision of the blue filters, the glare sensor is able to discriminate red light from white light or yellow light. The output signals of the photodiodes with the blue filters and the photodiodes with no filters are used for detecting the direction and color of the light coming from the fore scene. With this, the glare sensor is capable of detecting forerunning cars, oppositely running cars and traffic lights.

    Abstract: A projection headlamp for vehicles has a substantially elliptical reflector 14, a light source (bulb) located at the first focal point F1 of the reflector 14, a projection lens 16 disposed in front of the reflector 14, and a shade 20 located at a position near to the second focal point F2 and the focal point of the projection lens 16. The shade 20 partially intercepts light beams going from the reflector 14 toward the projection lens 16. The shade 20 is allowed to turn about the horizontal shaft 23 of the reflector 14 to adjust the beam distribution pattern. The shade 14 includes right and left shades 21 and 22, which are separated and horizontally extended when seen from the point substantially right under the optical axis L, and are allowed to independently turn about the horizontal shaft 23.
