Patent number: 8408290Abstract: A downhole tool for use in a well has a mandrel with an expandable sealing element disposed thereabout. The mandrel has a head portion threadedly connected thereto. A shoulder in the head portion and an upper end of the mandrel define an annular space. A sleeve with a bore therethrough may be positioned in the annular space. The head portion may be removed and a solid plug installed so that it fits within the annular space and so that the downhole tool will act as a bridge plug. The downhole tool has slip rings made up of a plurality of individual slip segments that are adhesively bonded to one another at the sides thereof.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 2009Date of Patent: April 2, 2013Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: Jesse C. Porter, William E. Standridge, Adam K. Neer, Tracy Martin, Kevin R. Manke

Publication number: 20120234538Abstract: Herein disclosed is a frac ball comprising three orthogonal axes x, y, and z; wherein the frac ball has approximately equal strength in each direction of the three axes x, y, and z. In an embodiment, the frac ball comprises a resin. In an embodiment, the frac ball comprises glass fibers or carbon fibers or both. In an embodiment, the frac ball comprises an equal amount of glass fibers in each direction of the x, y, and z axes. In an embodiment, the frac ball comprises glass fibers in the x and y axes and carbon fibers in the z axis. In an embodiment, the frac ball comprises no interlaminar layers. In an embodiment, the frac ball has different diameters. Also disclosed herein are methods of making and using such frac balls.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 15, 2011Publication date: September 20, 2012Applicant: General Plastics & Composites, LPInventors: Tracy Martin, Jesus IgnacĂo Chavez

Patent number: 7373973Abstract: A bridge plug having a segmented backup shoe, and at least one split cone extrusion limiter, the extrusion limiter comprising a two part conical retainer positioned between packer elements and the segmented backup shoe to block packer element extrusion though spaces between backup shoe segments. In one embodiment, two split cone extrusion limiters are used together and positioned so that each split cone extrusion limiter covers gaps in the other extrusion limiter and together the two split cone extrusion limiters block packer element extrusion though gaps between backup shoe segments regardless of their orientation relative to the segmented backup shoe. In one embodiment, a solid retaining ring is positioned between a split retaining cone extrusion limiter and a packer element and resists extrusion of packer elements into spaces in the split cone extrusion limiter or limiters.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 2006Date of Patent: May 20, 2008Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: Donald Smith, Donny Winslow, Mike Sutton, Tracy Martin

Patent number: 5693759Abstract: The invention provides methods and compositions relating to the Tax-response Complex-1 (TRC-1) a transcription complex associated with disease, particularly HTLV infection. TRC-1 is composed of novel forms of JunB and a member of a novel protein family called small nuclear factors or SNFs. The expression of these compounds are shown to correlate with cell lineage, activation and infection. SNFs and T-cell specific forms of JunB, find particular use in screening assays for agents or lead compounds for agents useful in the diagnosis, prognosis or treatment of disease, particularly HTLV infection. Nucleic acids encoding SNFs, and SNF-specific binding agents find use in diagnosis and as commercial reagents for the biopharmaceutical industry.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 1997Date of Patent: December 2, 1997Assignee: Regents of The University of CaliforniaInventors: William Wachsman, Tracy Martin, Wolfgang Klump
