Patent number: 9447612Abstract: A system and method for controlling an automatic operation of a power door of a vehicle is presented. An actuation of an interior switch by a user is detected and, upon detecting the actuation of the interior switch, whether at least one door of the vehicle is locked is determined. When the at least one door of the vehicle is locked, whether a vehicle security is set is determined. When the at least one door of the vehicle is locked and the vehicle security is set, the automatic operation of the power door is prohibited. When the at least one door of the vehicle is not locked or the vehicle security is not set, the automatic operation of the power door is permitted.Type: GrantFiled: October 21, 2014Date of Patent: September 20, 2016Assignee: Honda Motor Co., Ltd.Inventors: Michael D. Patent number: 9425729Abstract: A system and method for preventing thermal damage to an electric motor in a vehicle includes arrangements for monitoring the motor and detecting a cycle of the motor. If the cycle occurred within a predetermined increment time, a cycle count is incremented. If no cycle occurs for a predetermined decrement time, the cycle count is decremented if the cycle count is greater than zero. If the cycle count is at least equal to a cycle limit, power operation of the motor is deactivated for at least the decrement time. The method may include continuously calculating energy consumed by the motor and, if the energy consumed exceeds one or more allowable energy thresholds, setting the cycle count equal to the cycle limit. The method may further include detecting a failure condition and setting the cycle count equal to the cycle limit when the failure condition is detected.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2014Date of Patent: August 23, 2016Assignee: Honda Motor Co., Ltd.Inventors: Michael D. Patent number: 9356963Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product to detect and apply security policy to active client requests within a secure user session begins by applying a first heuristic to a plurality of requests for a particular resource to identify a pattern indicating of an active client. In one embodiment, the heuristic evaluates a frequency of requests for the particular resource across one or more secure user sessions. Later, upon receipt of a new request for the particular resource, a determination is then made whether the new request is consistent with the pattern. If so, an action is taken with respect to a secure session policy.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 2013Date of Patent: May 31, 2016Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Christopher John Hockings, Trevor Scott Norvill, Scott Anthony Exton

Patent number: 9188658Abstract: An automatically adjusting light shelf has a circuit of components used to measure light levels within a space; a light shelf hinged to a window assembly, used to reflect light entering the space; and a rotation device used to alter the light entering the space by rotating the light shelf. The light levels are measured using light sensors having a capacitive component and phototransistor in parallel with one another, a microcontroller, and optionally, a clock. The automatic operation of the light shelf can be overridden for manual operation. A method of using the automatically adjusting light shelf includes the steps of measuring a differential between the light levels reaching the light sensors; determining a direction to rotate the light shelf to alter the light; and rotating the light shelf so that the reflected light is optimized within the space.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 2013Date of Patent: November 17, 2015Inventor: Trevor Scott Betz
