  • Patent number: 10880108
Abstract: Systems and methods for multicasting a dataset to a fleet of vehicles by a deadline based on respective transit schedules of vehicles in the fleet are disclosed. Based on the vehicle transit schedules, a time segment may be determined for delivering at least a portion of the dataset to at least a subset of the vehicles in the fleet. The determination may be based on a maximum number of fleet vehicles that are scheduled to be simultaneously in transit. The determination may be additionally or alternatively based on an available transmission bandwidth, a time segment duration, a minimum transit duration, and/or other criteria. A multicast transmission including at least a portion of the data set is initiated based on the determination. Multiple multicasts and unicasts may achieve the complete transmission of the entire dataset to the entire fleet of vehicles prior to a deadline.

  • Patent number: 10455133
Abstract: A digital image capture device streams captured images (e.g. low-resolution images) to a remote viewer terminal, along with image identifiers and/or device position information. The remote viewer terminal displays the images for viewing by a remote viewer. The remote viewer provides inputs to a user interface, which indicate a direction of desired movement of the image capture device, and/or that the remote viewer wants new images (e.g. high-resolution images) to be captured at a desired position. The user interface inputs are translated into requests, which are transmitted to the image capture device. The image capture device provides movement prompts that direct a device operator to move the device in a requested direction or toward a requested position. When a position of the device corresponds to a requested image capture position, the image capture device captures one or more new images, and transmits the new images.

  • Patent number: 10200424
Abstract: A real-time media stream, multicast by a remote computing system, is received by an on-board system of a vehicle. While being received, the real-time media stream is packaged into time-delineated media segments that are input to a buffer. One or more missing segments are identified after a signal loss event (e.g., a satellite handoff), and a request for the missing segment(s) is/are caused to be sent to the remote computing system. The missing segment(s) is/are received from the remote computing system via a unicast transmission, and inserted into the buffer in sequence with the time-delineated media segments. The buffered real-time media stream, including the inserted segment(s), is caused to be provided to one or more electronic devices on-board the vehicle. In this manner, the real-time media stream may be seamlessly delivered to the on-board electronic device(s) despite a loss of connectivity due to the signal loss event.

  • Patent number: 10194072
Abstract: A communication system provides for automated detection, and resolution, of focus hunt. A server determines whether a predetermined number of blur metric transition (BMT) cycles, associated with a video stream, have occurred within a predetermined period of time or number of frames. In response to determining that the predetermined number of BMT cycles have occurred, the server determines that focus hunt has occurred. A BMT occurs when first and second blur metrics, determined for first and second video frames, transition from being greater than a blur metric threshold to being less than the threshold, or vice versa. In turn, a BMT cycle occurs when a BMT, of a first BMT and a second BMT, comprises a transition of blur metrics from less than the threshold to greater than the threshold and the other BMT comprises a transition of blur metrics from greater than the threshold to less than the threshold.

  • Patent number: 9641653
Abstract: A communication system synchronizes subscriptions between a user terminal (UT) and a Subscription Service Host (SSH). The UT conveys, to the SSH, multiple subscription messages associated with a Watcher that each initiates a subscription associated with the Watcher and requests watched entity status information. The UT starts a timer and, in response to an expiration of the timer, conveys a subscription information consolidated status update (SICSU) request to the SSH that requests a consolidated status update of all subscriptions associated with the Watcher. In response, the UT receives an SICSU notification comprising a first one or more SICSU values that indicate a status of multiple subscriptions associated with the Watcher, determines a corresponding second one or more SICSU values based on its own list, compares the first SICSU values to the second SICSU values, and determines whether the UT is out of synchronization with the SSH based on the comparison.

  • Patent number: 9544534
Abstract: Multiple cameras are operatively connected over a shared link to a video server on a video network. The cameras are operated to capture a plurality of video streams. Each video stream has intra-frames and predictive frames that are sequentially generated timewise apart. A number of the video streams that transmit over the shared link on the network is identified. A number of intra-frames that are generated substantially simultaneously in the identified video streams is also identified. The identified intra-frames in the video streams are offset in time to minimize video artifacts from being present in the video streams being transmitted over the shared link.

  • Patent number: 9467972
Abstract: A method and apparatus for multicasting data streams in a wireless radio communication system are provided. A server assigns a plurality of data streams amongst RF resources. One or more points-of-access of the wireless radio communication system are operable to transmit each RF resource to mobile communication devices. Responsive to a request from a mobile communication device for a selected one of the plurality of data streams, the server identifies the points-of-access that have not been assigned, and hence cannot transmit, the RF resource to which the selected data stream is assigned. An access controller instructs those points-of-access to deny association to the mobile communication device. The server then multicasts the selected data stream to the mobile communication device through one of the remaining points-of-access that can transmit the selected RF resource.

  • Patent number: 9413941
Abstract: Embodiments include apparatus and methods to compensate for overshoot of a desired field of vision (FOV) by a remotely-controlled image capture device. The image capture device produces images associated with a plurality of FOVs, and transmits the images to a remote viewer terminal along with image identifiers (or FOV definitions for the images). The terminal receives and displays the images to a viewer. In response to viewer indications to pan or stop panning, the terminal sends pan and regress commands, respectively, to the image capture device. A regress command includes a reference to a selected FOV (e.g., an image identifier or an FOV definition). In response to receiving a regress command, the image capture device regresses to the selected FOV, and transmits additional images associated with the selected FOV to the terminal. The system also may include an intermediary device, which performs some of the functions associated with overshoot compensation.
