  • Publication number: 20230121471
Abstract: In some implementations, a user device (e.g., a computing device) can perform client-side personalization of search results. For example, a computing device can obtain search results matching user specified search parameters from a server device and/or from various services on the user device. The user device can score the search results based on various search result item attributes. After scoring, the user device can promote or demote search results items based on whether the search results item is relevant to recent user behavior. The promotion and/or demotion of search results items can cause search results items scores to be adjusted to generate a personalized score for each search result. The search results can then be ordered and/or presented based on the personalized score for each search results item. When presenting search results items, the user device can present information indicative of the source of the search results items.

  • Publication number: 20230025576
Abstract: Some embodiments of the invention provide several novel methods for generating a navigation presentation that displays a device navigating a route on a map. The method of some embodiments uses a virtual camera that, based on detected changes in the navigation context, dynamically modifies the way it captures portions of the map to produce different navigation scenes in the navigation presentation. To generate the navigation scenes, the method of some embodiments (1) identifies different sets of attributes that describe the different navigation contexts at different times during the navigation presentation, and (2) uses these different sets of attributes to identify different styles for operating the virtual camera. In some embodiments, the method uses an identified style to specify the virtual camera's positional attributes, which, in turn, define the portions of the map that the virtual camera identifies for rendering to produce several navigation scenes for a period of time (e.g.

  • Publication number: 20210335128
Abstract: Some embodiments of the invention provide a navigation application that uses a novel traffic notification scheme for providing traffic related notifications during a navigation presentation that is provided by a device. While providing a navigation presentation, the application iteratively monitors traffic conditions along the route. When traffic conditions meet a set of one or more threshold criteria, the application identifies a type of traffic notification that it should provide from several possible traffic notifications types. Next, without receiving any input from outside of the device, the application provides a traffic notification that is associated with the selected traffic notification type. In some embodiments, the traffic notification types include a notification (1) relating to traffic congestion along the current route, (2) relating to one or more faster routes that can replace the current route, and (3) regarding a road closure or extreme delay along the current route.

  • Patent number: 11080915
Abstract: Some embodiments of the invention provide a map application with novel map exploration tools. In some embodiments, the map application executes on a mobile device (e.g., a handheld smartphone, a tablet, etc.) with a touch sensitive screen. The map application of some embodiments has a first display area to display a map of a region, and second and third display areas to display information about items displayed on the map in the first display area. In some embodiments, the second display area slides over the first display area to overlap at least a portion of the first display area. After the second display area slides over the first display area, the third display area in some embodiments slides over the first display area to overlap at least a portion of the first display area. In some embodiments, the second and third display areas slide over the first display area from one side of the first display area. This side is the bottom of the first display area in some embodiments.

  • Patent number: 10976168
Abstract: Some embodiments provide a map application that identifies a transit route between a starting location and a destination. The transit route, in some embodiments, includes a set of transit legs that each is serviced by transit vehicles of a transit line. The map application of some embodiments, after identifying the transit route, categorizes each transit line of the transit route as one of a high frequency transit line and a low frequency transit line. The map application displays the departure schedules of high frequency transit lines in a first manner, while the map application displays the departure schedules of low frequency transit lines in a second different manner.

  • Patent number: 10845199
Abstract: Some embodiments of the invention provide a navigation application that generates navigation instructions for a route, including navigation instruction for navigating within a venue. One example of such a venue is transit station. The navigation application identifies a portion of the route that includes two locations within a station, such as an access point (e.g., an entrance or exit) of the transit station and a platform within the station at which a transit vehicle arrives. The application identifies a path between the two locations (e.g., between an access point and a platform, between two platforms within the station, between a platform and another location within the station, or between any arbitrary two locations within the station). The application provides several turn-by-turn navigation instructions for navigating the path based on actual instructions signs that are displayed within the station to provide guidance for traveling between different locations in the station.
