  • Patent number: 11278356
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for treating and monitoring conditions such as rhinitis are disclosed herein. The technology utilizes ultrasound scans to identify target treatment sites, and monitor the treatment of a patient undergoing a treatment. The treatment may be an ablation treatment of a nasal nerve, for example the PNN for the treatment of nasal conditions, such as rhinitis. The ultrasound scans are performed within the nasal cavity with an ultrasound probe or a combined ultrasound and ablation probe and may use Doppler, A-mode, B-mode, M-mode or other ultrasound and non-ultrasound modalities to detect and monitor the target treatment sites.

  • Patent number: 11241325
Abstract: A tissue manipulation system comprises a reconfigurable hood structure. The hood structure is asymmetric and has a low profile delivery configuration and an expanded deployed configuration which defines an open area bounded at least in part by the hood structure and by an interface surface extending across the hood structure distal end and configured to engage against a tissue region. The open area is in fluid communication with an environment external to the hood structure. The system also includes a catheter in communication with the open area such that introduction of a fluid through the catheter purges the open area of bodily fluid. The interface surface is slanted relative to the catheter longitudinal axis when the hood structure is fully expanded in the expanded deployed configuration. The system also includes an imaging element positioned on the hood structure such that the open area is visualized through the fluid.

  • Publication number: 20210369320
Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods involve ablation of tissue to treat rhinitis and/or other nasal conditions. Implementations allow treatment of tissue in the confined space of the nasal cavity. Additionally, implementations allow targeted treatment tissue to be ablated, while protecting other non-treatment tissue from unintentional collateral effects that might be produced by the ablation. According to an example implementation, an approach for treating a nasal condition includes advancing a probe into a nasal cavity, the probe including a shaft and a cryotherapy element coupled to the shaft. The approach also includes cryogenically cooling a target treatment site with the cryotherapy element to treat at least one nasal nerve. Additionally, the approach includes transmitting a focused ultrasound beam to a target heating site to increase a temperature tissue at the target heating site.

  • Publication number: 20210244458
Abstract: The invention disclosed here generally relates to devices that can modify a property of a nerve. Specifically, the subject invention is contemplated to modify the posterior nasal nerve signal conduction in such a way so as to reduce the signals transmitted to the nasal cavity. Reduction or interruption of the nerve signals results in the reduction of the distal organ activity. In particular, embodiments of the present invention allow for increased lateral contact or apposition of the target tissue region having at least one posterior nasal nerve with the end effector surface by lateral and/or longitudinal translation of the end effector relative to the surgical probe shaft. This improved lateral surface contact has several benefits, including improved patient outcomes and patient safety as the end effector is adequately in contact with target tissue for subsequent ablation therapy.

  • Patent number: 11045341
Abstract: Apparatus for manipulating and securing tissue are described herein. In creating tissue folds within the body of a patient, a tissue manipulation assembly may generally have an elongate tubular member, an engagement member slidably disposed through the tubular member and a distal end adapted to engage tissue via a helical member, tissue stabilizing members positioned at the tubular member distal end which are adapted to stabilize tissue therebetween, and a delivery tube pivotable about the tissue stabilizer. The stabilizing members can be adapted to become angled relative to a longitudinal axis of the elongate tubular member. Moreover, one or all the articulation controls and functions can be integrated into a singular handle assembly connectable to the tissue manipulation assembly via a rigid or flexible tubular body.

  • Publication number: 20210137610
Abstract: The invention disclosed here generally relates to devices used to identify the location of a never in order to modify a property of the nerve. Specifically, the invention utilized pre-operative scans of a patient's nasal cavity in order to identify target treatment locations when a nerve to be treated is located. The image of the nasal cavity and target treatment location can be registered with the real time position of the nasal cavity using a surgical navigation system in order to assist in guiding a surgical probe to the target treatment location.
