  • Publication number: 20060116109
Abstract: Sending message notifications to a mobile station without requiring the mobile station to fully connect to a fee-based access point for a wireless network. A message notification system registers the mobile station as ready to receive a message notification, receives a message addressed to the mobile station from a sender, generates a message notification based on the message, and transmits the message notification to the mobile station through the access point. The fee-based access point allows the mobile station to partially connect to the access point without incurring a fee. The access point receives a registration request from the mobile station, forwards the registration request to the message notification system, receives the message notification from the message notification system, waits for a poll message from the mobile station, and forwards the message notification to the mobile station when the poll message is received.
