    Abstract: A multimodal micromixer obstacle for intensification of mixing and performing the reaction in a continuous manner is disclosed herein. The micromixer 100 comprises of plurality of inlets, an outlet and a plurality of channels. The end channels—of the channels, have plurality—of converging sections having width, to depth ratio ranging 1:1 to 20:1. The intermediate channels have at least, one obstacle having non-circular shape. Each converging section is incomplete ellipse, prolate or oblate shaped having, angle of curvature in the range of 90 to 270°. Axes of the inlets are coplanar and perpendicular to the channels. All the components of the micromixer are coplanar.

    Abstract: The present invention discloses a process for recovery and regeneration of rare earth metals or salts thereof used as catalyst and which is conveniently integrated within the overall flow sheets of manufacturing dialkyl carbonates. Alkyl carbamate, alcohol and a rare earth metal salt as catalyst selected from the lanthanide series are added in a reactor to afford dialkyl carbonate. The rare earth metal catalyst is selected from samarium, cerium, lanthanum, neodymium, ytterbium, europium and gadolinium. Ammonia is added to a portion of the reaction mixture to precipitate the catalyst and the separated deactivated catalyst is dissolved in acid to afford regenerated catalyst, e.g., in triflic acid in the case of samarium triflate catalyst.

    Abstract: The present invention discloses an improved catalyst free process for synthesis of alkyl carbamates in an integrated system comprising a tubular reactor and a striper. The process comprises reacting urea and an alcohol in said tubular reactor under autogeneous pressure; wherein said process provides >90% selectivity towards alkyl carbamate. The mixture of urea and alcohol is N fed to the tubular reactor at a particular feed rate. The tubular reactor is heated externally under autogeneous pressure to carry out a synthesis reaction producing alkyl carbamate and ammonia. The ammonia is removed from the tubular reactor by the striper. The tubular reactor and the stripper are arranged in series to reduce the equilibrium limitations of the reaction and drive the reaction in forward direction.

    Abstract: The invention disclosed provides an apparatus and method for filtration and disinfection of ship's ballast water, such as sea water, based on hydrodynamic cavitation. The apparatus comprises a vortex diode with a tangential entry port and an axial outlet port with single or multiple bleeding holes. The disinfected water may be re-circulated through the system for additional disinfection or released from the tank into the surrounding waterways. The disinfection of seawater/ship's ballast water is achieved through filtration and hydrodynamic cavitation and the method does not involve use of any chemicals or any chemical reaction. The invented apparatus and method is simple, eco-friendly and can be fitted on to existing intake and discharge systems of any ship with minor modifications. It poses no risk to the health of the ship's crew unlike chemical methods and requires no special skill or additional manpower for its operation.
