  • Patent number: 4414032
Abstract: This invention relates to an agent for preventing the flooding of color pigments in aqueous plastic dispersion paints, plastic-based plasters, and distemper paints containing cellulose ethers, which is based on a block polymer in which a di- or polyamine is present as the initial molecule on which alkylene oxide units are added, said block polymer being obtained from one mole of a di- or polyamine of the general Formula I ##STR1## wherein R is an alkylene group with 2 to 6 carbon atoms, and x is a whole number from 1 to 4, by reaction with about 5 to 50 moles of ethylene oxide, followed by reaction with about 5 to 100 moles of propylene oxide.

  • Patent number: 4401473
Abstract: The invention relates to dimethylphosphinylalkanephosphonic acids of the general formula I, in which n is 1 or 2, which are used as setting retarders for gypsum.

  • Patent number: 4355074
Abstract: Sheet-like material, such as wallpaper, posters or labels, can be stripped dry from surfaces to which they have been bonded after adhesive layers (applied in an aqueous medium) have dried. Adhesives which contain film-forming, water-soluble or water-swellable polymers are used. Separate layers containing two different adhesive polymers, particularly polysaccharide derivatives, are provided between the sheet-like material and the surface to which it is to be bonded, one of the two layers containing at least one non-ionic polymer and the other containing at least one ionic polymer. The invention includes the use of these adhesives (containing different film-forming, water-soluble or water-swellable polymers) in preparing dry-strippable sheet-like material and sheet-like material, such as wallpaper, posters or labels, having adhesive layers which can be reactivated by moistening with water and which comprise these adhesives.

  • Patent number: 4332746
Abstract: Novel phosphonocarboxylic acid compounds having the formula ##STR1## wherein the radicals R which may be identical or different and which represent alkyl radicals with 1-18 carbon atoms which may be optionally substituted by halogen, hydrogen, alkali metal ions or ammonium ions, are prepared by reacting methylene phosphonic acid alkyl esters with acrylic acid esters in the presence of strongly basic catalysts at temperatures of about 0.degree.-140.degree. C., and by possibly transesterifying the reaction products or by submitting the latter to acid or basic hydrolysis. The acid hydrolysis to yield the free, 3,3-diphosphono-pimelic acid is best carried out with at least the about 6-fold molar quantity of a carboxylic acid such as HCOOH, CH.sub.3 COOH, etc., optionally in the presence of catalytic quantities of strong acids or bases, at elevated temperatures.

  • Patent number: 4283229
Abstract: This invention relates to an improvement in the process for the preparation of a stable aqueous electrolyte-containing cellulose ether suspension, wherein an inherently water-soluble cellulose ether is added, in the form of solid particles, to an aqueous solution of an electrolyte and uniformly distributed therein, the improvement comprising using a non-ionogenic cellulose ether and adding alumina to the suspension.
