  • Patent number: 11397650
Abstract: Methods and systems for protecting virtual machines is provided. One method includes identifying a plurality of volumes of a primary storage system for storing a plurality of data containers of a virtual machine (“VM”); generating a consistency group (“CG”) snapshot of the plurality of volumes; associating a single instance storage clone of each data container of the VM from the CG snapshot to an active file system of the primary storage system; and generating metadata for representing a VM backup as a set having each of the single instance storage clone of each data container.

  • Patent number: 9251189
Abstract: Example embodiments provide various techniques for updating an old data structure configured to store metadata associated with database systems. In this method, a temporary data structure is created. Additionally, a new data structure representing an update of the old data structure is created. The metadata from the old data structure are copied to the temporary data structure, and the temporary data structure is transformed to match the new data structure. The metadata from the transformed temporary data structure are copied to the new data structure. The transformation of the temporary data structure instead of the old data structure may enable an application that is not being updated to be operational and to access the old data structure during the update. After the metadata is copied to the new data structure, a new version of the application is then able to access the new data structure.

  • Patent number: 8868503
Abstract: Method and system for using a clone of a replicated copy of a data structure as an independent data object is provided. The replicated copy and the clone share data blocks, when the clone is generated. The clone is assigned new data blocks to replace the shared data blocks. A profile for the clone is generated where the clone does not share any data blocks with the replicated copy. The profile includes an option to delete the clone profile and any associated data blocks thereof.
