    Abstract: A variable pressure drive peritoneal dialysis system has a pneumatic pressure system for purging and controlling a flow of dialysate through a disposable dialysate cassette of a disposable dialysate delivery set. The pneumatic pressure system has a variable-opening flow proportional valve for supplying air at selected profiled pressure or vacuum to a pneumatic interface. The disposable dialysate cassette has a diaphragm pump actuable by the profiled air pressure or vacuum to move dialysate to and from a patient via the disposable dialysate delivery set at a desired profiled dialysate pressure.

    Abstract: A miniature electrofluidic module is disclosed, for receiving one or more fluids and for receiving an electrical connection. In accordance with one aspect of the invention, the module includes a substantially flat fluidic manifold layer for fluid distribution, a substantially flat electrical layer including an electrical circuit, and a substantially flat device layer including micromachined devices. The devices may include electrically actuated valves for modulating the flow of fluids. In another aspect of the invention, an electrofluidic module is combined with an electrofluidic circuit board. In a further aspect, an electrofluidic system such as a dialysate handling system is disclosed, including a fluidic fixture and an electrofluidic assembly incorporating electrofluidic devices.

    Abstract: A non-invasive technique and system is provided for measuring flow of liquid driven by a flexible diaphragm of a membrane pump (18). Flow, pressure and/or temperature of a gas, such as air, used to drive the pump (18) is continuously monitored. Instantaneous volume of liquid being pulled into or out of a chamber of the pump (18) can be calculated from measured values of the gas used to drive the pump (18). Sensors (10, 12 and/or 14) are used to measure values relating to the gas. The sensed parameters are concurrently monitored and continuously determine the amount of gas flowing to and from the diaphragm of the membrane pump (18) utilized to move liquid within a liquid pathway. The measurements may then be used to calculate the instantaneous flow rate of the liquid.
