  • Publication number: 20140037247
Abstract: According to an example, an apparatus for use in optoelectronics includes a bottom transparent layer, a top transparent layer having a top surface, a lens sandwiched between the bottom transparent layer and the top transparent layer, and a first alignment element attached to the top surface of the top transparent layer, wherein the first alignment element is offset with respect to the lens and is to mate with a mating alignment element on an optical transmission medium.

  • Publication number: 20140029941
Abstract: A system includes an optical Y-junction coupler to receive a first modulated optical signal on a wide input path of the optical Y-junction coupler and to receive a second modulated optical signal on a narrow input path of the optical Y-junction coupler, wherein the optical Y-junction coupler generates a combined optical signal from signals received on the wide input path and the narrow input path. A multimode waveguide receives the combined optical signal from the optical Y-junction coupler and propagates a spatially multiplexed optical output signal along a transmission path.

  • Publication number: 20140029943
Abstract: A system includes a laser array that receives a plurality of electrical signals and generates a plurality of optical signals driven from a corresponding member of the plurality of electrical signals, wherein the plurality of optical signals are arranged in a plurality of different groups. A coplanar router routes the plurality of optical signals to an array of optical multiplexers, such that each multiplexer receives optical signals from each of the plurality of different groups.

  • Publication number: 20130286614
Abstract: A composite wafer includes a molded wafer and a second wafer. The molded wafer includes a plurality of first components, and the second wafer includes a plurality of second components. The second wafer is combined with the molded wafer to form the composite wafer. At least one of the first components is aligned with at least one of the second components to form a multi-component element. The multi-component element is singulatable from the composite wafer.

  • Publication number: 20130287336
Abstract: An apparatus comprises a given multimode optical waveguide extending in a given direction. The apparatus also comprises another multimode optical waveguide extending in another direction and intersecting with the given multimode waveguide. The apparatus further comprises a bi-stable optical switch positioned at the intersection of the given multimode optical waveguide and the another multimode optical waveguide to redirect a multimode optical signal transmitted on the given multimode optical waveguide to the another optical waveguide in a redirection state and pass the multimode optical signal transmitted on the given multimode optical waveguide across the intersection of the given multimode optical waveguide and the another optical waveguide in a pass-through state. The bi-stable optical switch can comprise a gap extending diagonally from a given corner of the intersection of the given and the another optical multimode waveguides to an opposing corner of the intersection.

  • Publication number: 20130266033
Abstract: A system includes a modulatable source and matched modal filter. The modulatable source is associated with a plurality of source modes to provide a generated signal. The matched modal filter is coupled to the modulatable source to receive the generated signal. Filter modes are to match the source modes. The matched modal filter is coupleable to a link fiber to provide a signal to the link fiber. The filter modes are to match a subset of link fiber modes to couple the plurality of filter modes to the link fiber.

  • Patent number: 6950566
Abstract: A method to reduce optical intensity modulation is described that involves generating a spiraling wave onto an acoustic-optic interaction portion of an optical fiber within an acousto-optic filter in order to create reflected waves that are orthogonal with respect to waves that are originally launched onto the interaction portion. A transducer is described having a first section and a second section. The first and second sections each have a polling direction along a first axis. The transducer also has a third section and a fourth section. The third and fourth sections each have a polling direction along a second axis. The third and fourth sections are each between the first and second sections. An acousto-optic filter having a horn with an elliptical cross section coupled to a transducer is also described. A transducer for an excitation element capable of launching spiraling acoustic waves is described.
