  • Patent number: 6871693
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for the continuous casting of slabs or ingots, in particular of thin slabs in a continuous casting installation. Said installation comprises a soft reduction section in a continuous casting guide under the mould. The soft reduction section contains pressure rollers and support roller (3, 4), which are continuously restrained in relation to one another, either individually or as a segment (1), by means of hydraulic cylinders (7, 7?) and are restrained in a limiting manner by stops (30). The installation uses a hard-pressure restraining force in an area of the soft reduction section that has not yet completely solidified and a soft-pressure restraining force in an area of the soft reduction section that has completely solidified.

  • Patent number: 6810943
Abstract: A continuous casting installation for producing thin slabs includes a laterally adjustable mold in which an immersion nozzle protrudes. In the mold there is opposite a larger crowned cross section on the charging side a cross section on the strand outlet side which is small and identically crowned in the central region. The installation further has pairs of supporting and guiding rollers which follow the mold and have a caliber adapted to the emerging crowned strand. The broad-face parts have planar-surface central parts which are arranged parallel to one another along their widths and taper toward one another in the casting direction of the strand. The broad-face parts also have planar side surfaces arranged so that they taper conically toward each other in the direction of the narrow faces. The planar-surface central plate is connected to the planar-surface side surfaces by transitional parts.

  • Patent number: 5832984
Abstract: Molten steel is poured into a water cooled continuous casting mold in which the steel solidifies partially with the formation of a strand having a length and a peripheral shell. The strand has a cross-sectional surface area with one of a round shape, an oval shape and a polygonal shape having more than four sides. Additionally, the strand has a minimum circumference of 200 mm. The cross-sectional surface area of the strand leaving the mold is then reduced using rolls before the strand fully solidifies. The reducing includes deforming the strand into a polygonal shape having at least four corners while maintaining the circumference as well as the length of the strand at the peripheral shell constant.

  • Patent number: 5433265
Abstract: A billet guide in continuous casting installations for producing slabs, in particular according to the continuous casting and rolling process, including rollers which are located across from one another in pairs can be adjusted to different billet thicknesses, and are supported at frame pans of the billet guide. The frame pans are connected by tie rods which are formed by piston-cylinder units. Spacers are placed between the upper and lower frame pans in the flow of force of the piston-cylinder unit. A hydraulic ring cylinder is arranged between the spacers and the cylinder of the piston-cylinder unit and encloses the piston. The ring piston of the hydraulic ring cylinder supports the spacer in a frictional manner.

  • Patent number: 5307864
Abstract: A method and system for continuously producing a flat steel product from flat stock produced by the arcuate continuous casting method with a horizontal direction of emergence are disclosed. In one form of the invention, flat stock is shaped after solidification of a strand in a first shaping stage at temperatures exceeding about 1100.degree. C. The stock is then inductively reheated to a temperature of about 1100.degree. C. with approximate temperature equalization of an entire cross-section of the flat stock. The flat stock is additionally shaped in at least one additional shaping stage with rolling speeds in accordance with the stock's accompanying reduction in thickness per pass.

  • Patent number: 5018569
Abstract: A method for continuous casting of thin slab ingots with reduced thickness following immediately the casting particularly of steel under utilization of a mold which is open at the bottom and under further utilization of roller pairs arranged along the withdrawal path, at least some of them are driven and at least some of the rollers are hydraulically adjustable perpendicular from the path so as to act as ingot deforming rolls. The invention is further improved by determining the speed of driven rollers, and the pressure force of adjustable roller pairs acting against the ingot and providing feedback control for the speed and the force. Additionally, providing a master control action for the speed control such that a point of solidification is dynamically maintained in a particular geometric position as far as the passing ingot is concerned; and by limiting the adjustment of rollers as far as the gap between pairs of such rollers is concerned downstream from that point.

  • Patent number: 4476915
Abstract: A method for continuous casting of metallic strands which provides a maximum compressive stress to the strand at the precise bending point of the strand guide. In this manner, continuous casting speeds of greater than 0.8 m/min. can be utilized without the otherwise present potential for ruptures and tears. Pairs of supporting rollers are spaced along the strand guide. A bending point is defined as the precise point where the arcuate section of the strand guide becomes the linear section of the strand guide. It is at that bending point that the compressive forces on the cast metallic strand are maximized by the selected driving of the supporting rollers, located downstream of the bending point. The number of supporting rollers located upstream of the bending point is not less than twice the number of supporting rollers located downstream of the bending point.

  • Patent number: 4452298
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the cooling of a continuously cast metal strand, comprising a plurality of support rollers, located in the second zone of cooling. The support rollers are cooled from their interior by the passage therethrough of cooling fluid. The rollers have interior walls which display a wave-like shape to present a great surface area for superior cooling while still supporting the loading stress due to the weight of the metallic strand.
