    Abstract: Hydroxyfunctional compounds suitable for use in the polyisocyanate polyaddition process are obtained from polyurethane and/or polyurethane polyurea waste by decomposition with an alcohol and subsequent reaction of the alcoholysis products to reduce their content of low molecular weight, sterically unhindered aromatic amines. In this process, polyurethane and/or polyurethane polyurea waste is first treated with a low molecular weight diol or polyol at a temperature of from about 160 to 260.degree. C. The resultant alcoholysis product may then either be further heated at a temperature lower than that used in the first step within the ranger of from about 50 to 180.degree. C. or reacted with a dialkyl carbonate and/or 1,3-dicarbonyl compound.

For the preparation, toluylene diisocyanate is trimerized, to form the isocyanurate structure, until 10 to 25% of the NCO groups have been reacted.

These compounds are produced by reacting a finely divided polyurethane-polyurea and/or polyurea waste material with a low molecular weight diol and/or polyol (and optionally a higher molecular weight polyol) and a low molecular weight urea and/or carbamic acid ester. This reaction may be carried in either one stage or two stages. In the two stage process, the waste material and diol/polyol are reacted in a first stage at a temperature of from about 100 to about 260.degree. C. In the second stage, the amine-containing alcoholysis product obtained in the first stage is reacted with a low molecular weight urea and/or carbamic acid ester.

    Abstract: Compounds containing alcoholic hydroxyl groups suitable as a starting material for the isocyanate polyaddition process by the alcoholysis of polyisocyanate polyaddition products are produced. Polyurethane urea or polyurea waste products having a molar ratio of urea groups to urethane groups of from 1:20 to 1:0 are heated in size reduced form to temperatures of from 120.degree. to 250.degree. C. together with B) polyhyhdric alcohols in the molecular weight range of from 62 to 250 in a ratio by weight of A:B of from 3:1 to 1:10. At least 10% of the polyhydric alcohol B put into the process is subsequently removed by distillation under reduced pressure. A total of up to 1000% by weight, based on the weight of polyurethane urea or polyurea waste A, of one or more polyhydroxy compounds having a molecular weight above 250 which is (are) not volatile under the distillation conditions may optionally be added to the mixture before and/or after removal of the excess alcohol B by distillation.

    Abstract: Polyamines containing primary amino groups are made by hydrolyzing an isocyanate with water in the presence of a solvent which is a carboxylic acid amide. The solvent must be used in a quantity of at least 10% by weight solvent based on 100% by weight of isocyanate. The weight ratio of solvent to water must be from 3 to 200. A homogeneous phase is maintained during the hydrolysis which is carried out at temperatures of from 20.degree. to 210.degree. C. A not incorporable basic and/or metal catalyst particularly alkali metal hydroxides may be employed. The polyamines produced by this process are particularly useful for the production of polyurethanes.

C., and (c) optionally, solid or liquid low molecular weight chain-extending or crosslinking compounds having molecular weights of from 62 to 399, are added to an inert solvent containing an emulsifier, thereby forming powdered heat-curable reaction mixtures in which components (a), (b), and (c) remain in uncrossedlinked form. The invention further relates to the use of the heat-curing reaction mixtures for the preparation of high-quality polyurethane polyurea plastics.
