  • Patent number: 6776461
Abstract: The underlying idea of the invention is to reduce the pressure force resulting from the inlet pressure and the outlet pressure of the back-up valve and affecting the valve body of the back-up valve. The valve body is a switching piston with a first and second switching piston side. The first switching piston side is pressurized by brake operating valve pressure or with brake cylinder pressure and the second switching piston side is pressurized on a first partial surface with brake cylinder pressure and on a second partial surface with brake operating valve pressure. The pressures affecting both sides of the switching piston thus cancel each other out.

  • Patent number: 6079791
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for controlling the brake system of a vehicle consisting of at least two component vehicles are proposed, where at least one of these component vehicles is equipped with an electrically controlled brake system. As a function of the actuation of the brake pedal, nominal values for the control of the wheel brakes are formed. An actuating variable for controlling the wheel brakes of the second component vehicle is formed in this first component vehicle. During a braking operation of the complete vehicle, the actuating variable for one component vehicle is modified by a value which, in the event that the brakes of the first component vehicle are not engaged, is determined by adjustment of the actuating variable for the second component vehicle or by adjustment of the nominal values for the wheel brake of the first component vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5984433
Abstract: A central control module generates nominal values for braking based on a pedal input value form a pedal sensor which detects actuation of the brake pedal by the driver, and sensor signals representing wheel speeds. First and second brake control modules transmit sensor signals to the central module, receive nominal values from the central module, and transmit nominal values to the actuators. The first brake control module receives the pedal input value from the pedal sensor directly, and calculates the nominal values as a function of the pedal input value when the central module has failed.

  • Patent number: 5752747
Abstract: The extent to which the brake pedal is actuated is detected, and the braking action in the wheel brakes with the greater amount of wear is reduced as a function of this pedal actuation. The reduction in brake pressure takes place primarily in a low range of brake pressures, the amount of reduction decreasing continuously in a middle range of brake pressures, and not taking place at all at high brake pressures.

  • Patent number: 5738418
Abstract: The onset and the end of the braking action, especially the braking action of the component vehicles of a combination vehicle, are determined on the basis of the course of the deceleration of the vehicle. • Patent number: 5702163
Abstract: The pressure in the brake system is adjusted by an electronic control unit to conform to a nominal value, and the onset of the braking action is derived from the detection of the reaction of the vehicle body during the braking operation. • Patent number: 5669678
Abstract: During one or more braking processes, the application pressures of the wheel brakes and the characteristic brake values of the wheel brakes of at least one axle are determined. The application pressure represents the beginning of brake action at the wheels and can be determined from an inflection point in the curve representing brake pressure at the wheels as it increases in response to a driver's command, and further from the wheel velocity or a derivative thereof. The characteristic brake values are determined based on the brake pressure, the application pressure, and the deceleration of the vehicle. The application pressures and the characteristic brake values are stored for use in subsequent brake actions, in order to control the brakes so that wheels at each axle are uniformly braked.
