Patent number: 5046620Abstract: A portemonnaie assembly includes a substantially flat housing defined by an integral outer member forming front and rear panels with the rear panel extending to provide a closure flap foldable over the top access to a storage area therein. A unitary partition and privacy member anchored within the storage area permits the placement, storage and removal of personal hygiene articles of minimum dimensions, within the storage area and to one side of the partition section with the privacy section being foldable thereover to provide non-viewable sequestering of these articles. Preferably, these articles include a miniature tampon and feminine napkin together with a pair of disposable panties such that the user will be prepared for unexpected menses. Other, more frequently accessed articles such as cosmetics, are placed adjacent the outer surface of the privacy section and readily accessible without disturbing or exposing the personal hygiene articles.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 1990Date of Patent: September 10, 1991Inventor: William A. Patent number: 4968311Abstract: A disposable infant's diaper includes a wrapper comprising a unitary sheet having a base panel affixed to the diaper back section to form a pocket within which the balance of the wrapper sheet is contained. When the diaper is soiled and the user wishes to dispose of it, pulling an end panel of the sheet from the pocket unfolds the sheet to present lateral flaps bounding a center panel, while the sheet remains affixed to the diaper. The diaper is over-folded onto the sheet center panel, after which the lateral flaps are sequentially over-folded atop the diaper and respectively sealingly attached in place. The complete encapsulation of the diaper is achieved following the over-folding of the sheet end panel atop the previously manipulated lateral flaps. Alternative folded configurations of the wrapper sheet are contemplated.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 1989Date of Patent: November 6, 1990Assignee: Personal Hygiene Research AssociatesInventors: Robert Chickering, William A. Patent number: 4931274Abstract: A composition for effectively treating dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis and scalp psoriasis comprising a combination of essential ingredients consisting of microfine particles of a clay mineral containing adsorbed magnesium, water, ethanol, sodium chloride and, optionally, minor amounts of glycerin and precipitated sulfur. The effectiveness of the method in treating such scalp diseases by topical application to the scalp epidermis is predicated on the capacity of the composition to release and deliver magnesium cations and hydroxyl anions to the causative sites and return the associated pathological cells to a normal morphology.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 1988Date of Patent: June 5, 1990Assignee: Physiological Research AssociatesInventors: William A. Patent number: 4923455Abstract: A disposable diaper includes a sealable disposal envelope integrally attached along a belt area seam of the diaper. A sealing tape-belt member adhered to the envelope provides an airtight seal of this envelope when the used diaper is folded and then inturned around the seam and placed within the envelope. The seam is adherently formed, by among other possibilities, by a heat seal or adhesive such as a double stick adhesive tape. The sealing tape is also provided with an adhesive on both faces. One face of the sealing adhesive is attached to the inside of the envelope while the other face performs a dual function. Initially, this other face secures the opening of the un-used disposal bag in a closed manner but subsequently serves to sealingly close this bag opening following infolding of the used diaper into the attached disposal bag. During use of the diaper, the sealing tape operates as a belt, permitting form-fitting of the diaper about the body.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 1988Date of Patent: May 8, 1990Assignee: Personal Hygiene Research AssociatesInventors: Raymond S. Dean, William A. Barabino

Patent number: 4875602Abstract: A liquid dispensing apparatus includes a self-contained source of fluid normally isolated within a reservoir bulb which is deformable to initially rupture a membrane allowing the fluid to be forced in an axial direction through a shaft bore to saturate a tip-mounted swab. Alternatively, this membrane may be positioned intermediate two aligned sections of the shaft or associated structure and is ruptured upon partial axial collapse of the sections. Several embodiments are proposed and in some, the membrane not only provides the initial containment of the fluid but also serves as a fluid-tight seal between axially adjacent portions of the structure.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 1988Date of Patent: October 24, 1989Assignee: Triad Direct IncorporatedInventors: Robert Chickering, William A. Patent number: 4266633Abstract: A system is provided for indicating excessive wear of brake linings. The system is usable on vehicles such as automobiles, cars, trucks and busses as well as aircraft or other applications where it is desirable to detect excessive wear of brake linings during operation thereof. The system includes an acoustical signal generating device having an air inlet normally closed by the brake lining. When the lining wears away to a minimum safe thickness, the inlet is opened and ambient air flows into the generator to produce an acoustical signal. An acoustical receiver is positioned in spaced operative relation to the brake system and responds to the acoustical signal to provide a warning indication on the dashboard, for example, of the vehicle so that the operator of the vehicle will be alerted to the worn brake condition.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 1979Date of Patent: May 12, 1981Assignee: Safety Research & Engineering CorporationInventors: William A. Patent number: 4186377Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for monitoring tire pressure for motor vehicles, or the like, in which coded sound signals emitted from a wheel-mounted sound signal generator are detected and processed. The coded signal from the generator serves to distinguish the sound signal from background noise. The output of the generator is comprised of at least two coherent frequencies that beat acoustically with one another to produce an amplitude modulated sound signal that is then detected by a transducer which converts the sound signals into the electrical signals. The electrical signals are then fed through the processing circuitry including a detector which extracts the modulation envelope and applies it to an audio band-pass filter. The filter accepts the envelope within a predetermined frequency range, eliminating all signals which are not within the designed band pass. A second detector converts the audio signal to a DC level and feeds it to a threshold comparator.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 1977Date of Patent: January 29, 1980Assignee: Safety Research & Engineering CorporationInventor: William A. Patent number: 4067376Abstract: Excessively high or low tire pressure is detected automatically with a warning signal generated for the operator. A device is attached to each wheel and includes a spring-loaded piston mounted for reciprocation in a cylinder formed in the device. The cylinder is provided with a porting arrangement which opens only at certain pressure limits. When the ports are opened a sonic or ultrasonic signal is generated and detected by sensors located in proximity to each wheel. The signals detected by the sensors are processed and utilized to actuate a warning signal that provides a visual and/or audio output for the operator. Means are provided for discriminating between background noise and the generated signal as well as to discriminate as to the location of the affected tire. In a modification of the invention, a reserve chamber is integrated into the body of the wheel and is adapted to replenish automatically air lost from the tire.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 1976Date of Patent: January 10, 1978Assignee: Safety Research & Engineering CorporationInventor: William A.
