  • Publication number: 20020106412
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling the migration of binder liquid in a bulk powder. The bulk powder may be deposited in a powder bed and contains at least two different substances, each in powder form. One substance gives the printed part its bulk properties, forms most of the powder, and preferably is either insoluble or not significantly soluble in the binder liquid. The other powder substance is a migration control substance. Upon interaction with the binder liquid, this substance may absorb the binder liquid and form a gel or dissolve into the binder liquid increasing viscosity thereby inhibiting binder migration. No chemical reactions occur between the binder liquid and any of the substances in the powder bed. In another embodiment of the instant invention, binder migration may be further controlled by first printing a barrier region in the powder bed containing the migration control substance.

  • Patent number: 5826482
Abstract: A hydraulic actuator has a housing, a piston drive chamber in the housing, a fluid inlet into the chamber, and a piston reciprocable in the drive chamber. The piston has diametrical steps exposed to fluid under pressure to cycle the piston. A sleeve spaced from and surrounds over a length of the piston to define a return chamber therebetween. The housing has first and second seats. The first seat and a first surface of the sleeve define an exhaust valve, which has an exhaust port, for the return chamber. The exhaust port is opened and closed by reciprocating the sleeve. The second seat and a second surface of the sleeve an inlet valve for the return chamber. Reciprocating the sleeve opens and closes the return chamber to the drive chamber. The housing also has a bore through which a portion of the sleeve reciprocates to close the exhaust valve and seal the drive chamber.

  • Patent number: 5231799
Abstract: A localized grinder is traversed in series over flat tension mask support rails affixed to a CRT front panel to produce a constant "Q"-height on the mask support surface above the rails. A local measuring device is used to develop point-specific rail height information relative to the screen edges for operation of the grinder in order to ascertain an effective "Q"-height measurement from the panel surface.

  • Patent number: 4559401
Abstract: An improved method for the preparation of chromophore-substituted vinyl-halomethyl-s-triazines especially 2-(p-methoxystyryl)-4,6-bis-(trichloromethyl)-s-triazine. In the known preparation of these compounds, a two step procedure is utilized wherein an intermediate reaction product has to be isolated. This step of separating the intermediate is eliminated in the present process by dissolving the crude reaction product obtained in the first step in toluene, removing excess hydrogen chloride gas and catalysts by purging the reaction product solution with an inert gas, and then reacting p-anisaldehyde with the toluene solution of the reaction product mixture using piperidinium acetate catalyst to obtain 2-(p-methoxystyryl)-4,6-bis-(trichloromethyl)-s-triazine.As a further improvement of the art the Knoevenagel-type condensation is run until no further water is evolved. At this point the product formed is isolated by filtration and a like amount of catalyst as a second charge is added.

  • Patent number: 4394681
Abstract: A projection optical system is disclosed that is protractible and retractible within a narrow spatial column for emerging from and nesting in a cabinet of an ultra-compact, rear-projection television receiver. The system comprises in combination a stationary optical assembly permanently enclosed in a lower portion of the cabinet and having image projection means and first mirror means. A protractible optical assembly is elevatable as a unit from the cabinet; the assembly includes a mirror and a rear projection screen. The mirror and screen are at angles effective to reflect and receive, respectively, an aerial image of the television image formed by the image projection means of the stationary optical assembly. The angles are also effective for nesting the mirror and the screen with components of the stationary optical assembly. The optical system, when retracted and nested is overall depth-wise-shallow and the receiver is as compact as a conventional, large-screen console television receiver.

  • Patent number: 4376949
Abstract: A projection television system having three different primary color pitcure tubes in an in-line configuration, one centrally located on the projection screen axis and the other two on opposite sides of the axis. In order to compensate for the defocussing which these off-axis locations produce at the edges of the projected image, the off-axis picture tubes are rotated relative to the optical axes of their respective focussing lenses, thus rotating the corresponding projected images into coincidence with the projection screen. The off-axis positioning also produces color shading by making the square law fall-off in illumination vary across the projection screen, and also by producing a trapezoidal distortion which is compensated by pre-distortion which introduces additional color shading effects. The first effect is reduced by making the lenses tangent or nearly tangent to each other, thus minimizing the angular deviation of the projection axes.

  • Patent number: 4196446
Abstract: A color television receiver system has a cathode ray picture tube including an imaging faceplate having deposits of multi-color phosphor targets thereon. The tube includes a three-beam electron gun and a color selection aperture mask having apertures in registration with the targets. A beam-current-control signal is derived from the scansion circuit means of the receiver system; the amplitude of the signal varies monotonically as a function of the distance of the beams from the center of the faceplate. Means are provided for receiving the beam-current-control signal for modulating the receiver system luminance signal with the beam-current-control signal, which has such characteristics that the modulation causes a predetermined gradational reduction in beam current as a function of the distance of the beam from the center of the faceplate. The benefits include enhanced color purity and improved resolution, and energy savings.
