  • Publication number: 20160241037
Abstract: An energy storage apparatus for storing energy transmitted by a power transmission line includes an elastically deformable component and an actuator-generator. The actuator-generator is coupled to the elastically deformable component such that both mechanical and electrical actuation of the actuator-generator causes a generation of electrical energy by the actuator-generator via a release of tension in the elastically deformable component.

  • Patent number: 9397974
Abstract: A delivery assurance system for ensuring that people have an opportunity to view messages shared by authors to which they subscribe is disclosed. The delivery assurance system is configured to communicate with at least one author and a plurality of followers associated with the at least one author. The system in the preferred embodiment comprises a computer processor configured to receive a post from an author; transmit a first copy of the post to a plurality of users; determine if any of the plurality of users did not see the post; automatically transmit a second copy of the post to each of the plurality of users that did not see the first copy of the post; and remove the first copy of the post from a timeline of each user to which a second copy of the post was transmitted. Transmission of multiple copies of the messages, therefore, enables users to see a message regardless of when the author initially transmitted it.

  • Publication number: 20160126735
Abstract: An apparatus for removing harmonic noise from a power transmission line transmitting electricity at a primary frequency includes a filter and a controller coupled to the sensor and to an actuator-generator. The filter separates electricity at a harmonic of a primary frequency from the electrical signal transmitted by the power transmission line. The controller is configured to modulate consumption of electricity from the power transmission line. The consumption is controlled by electrical actuation of the actuator-generator, such that the electrical actuation of the actuator-generator causes consumption of electricity from the power transmission line at a harmonic of the primary frequency. The actuator-generator is coupled to an elastically deformable component, such that electrical actuation of the actuator-generator generates tension in the elastically deformable component.

  • Publication number: 20150212188
Abstract: The invention is a system and method for heliostat mirror control. Here, each heliostat mirror generates a low intensity “signal beam”, directed at an angle off from the heliostat mirror's high intensity and sensor blinding “main beam” of reflected solar energy. The low intensity signal beams may be created by reflecting a small portion of the incident solar light at an angle from the main beam, by reflected artificial light, or from lasers shinning onto mirrors from known locations. The signal beams are detected by optical sensors mounted way from the main heliostat receiver focus, and can be used in a closed loop control system to efficiently ensure that individual heliostat mirrors in a heliostat array accurately track sunlight and direct the sunlight to a central receiver. Because heliostat mirrors need not be taken “off sun” for positioning, the system allows heliostat arrays to be run at high efficiency.
