    Abstract: An indenter used in hardness testing apparatus to penetrate hard metals and other materials consists of a shank body having at its end a conical frustum with a cylindrical recess extending axially from that end, and a cone of polycrystalline diamond bonded to a hard metal rod which, in turn is bonded in the cylindrical recess concentrically with the axis of the body.
