  • Patent number: 4114139
Abstract: A security controlled information exchange system for controlling the orderly exchange of information between two or more users under primary control of security identifiers. Each user is set up with a local user indentifier (LUID) and a number of remote user identifiers (RUID). Also, associated with selected ones of the RUIDs, are jobs which are to be communicated. A user initiates communication transfer by forwarding to another terminal its LUID and the receiving user compares the received LUID with its list of RUIDs and if a compare is made, the receiver forwards its own LUID to the initiating party. If a compare is is not made, it disconnects. The initiating party then compares the LUID which has been forwarded to it with its list of RUIDs and if no compare is made, it disconnects. If a compare is made, however, it holds onto the line and the called party then sends the jobs which are associated with the RUID which corresponds to the LUID which it received.

  • Patent number: 4095277
Abstract: A control language using conventional text characters and a unique command and instruction delimiter whereby the commands and instructions which use conventional text characters may be detected and presented to a utilization device is shown. The control language facilitates the transmission of commands and instructions through existing data communication networks without alterations thereto. In addition, a structure suitable for scanning coded signals, detecting the unique delimiter and providing an indicia of commands and instructions is shown.

  • Patent number: 3991405
Abstract: A system for automatically arranging a stored sequence ot textural character codes and control codes to provide textual line lengths within a predetermined range. If a tab code is detected within the stored sequence, the amount of line length corresponding to the tab code is calculated by the control logic, since the tab code, itself, includes no indication of the amount of line length for execution of the tab code. The number of character codes and space codes on a line containing a tab code is reduced to accommodate the line length required to execute the tab code upon print-out by a printer. In forming a group of codes corresponding to a line, a hyphenation decision may be necessary when inclusion of a word at the end of a line would result in too great a line length, while exclusion of the word would result in too short a line length.

  • Patent number: 3987415
Abstract: In the IBM Mag Card II, data read from the cards into the shift register buffer can be scanned without printing the data out and rerecorded on a magnetic card with proper pagination decisions made based on an operator entered line count. A system is provided for printing out a reference line near the end of each page based on the operator entered line count such that the operator can determine that the page has ended at a proper point. In addition, the system provides a control technique such that when a sufficient number of lines have been scanned to satisfy the line count, the reference print line will neither be the next to the last line of a paragraph nor the first line of a paragraph. This control is in accordance with established word processing procedures in that it is undesirable to end the page with the first line of a paragraph or to begin a subsequent page with the last line of a paragraph. Logic is provided to accomplish this printout in accordance with the above rules.

  • Patent number: 3958224
Abstract: An unattended printing system in which the operator keys in a page line count defining the number of lines to be printed on a page from codes derived from a shift register memory which is automatically loaded from a pack feed magnetic read/recorder. Logic is provided which, in the event that the text being played out does not equal a full page, automatic indexes or carrier returns will be generated to cause the page to be fed such that the printing mechanism is then in alignment with the first line of the next page. While page feeding occurs the memory is also automatically cleared; a new card is fed and reading of new codes into the shift register initiated. In addition, in the event that the margins on the machine which is being used for playout differ from the margins which were used during source recording, in the event that a fewer number of lines of text result, the proper number of indexes for this fewer number of lines to cause proper alignment on the next page will be output.
