  • Patent number: 8271789
Abstract: Disclosed is a system managing usage authorizations, comprising a central computer system, field devices and smart cards, wherein the system maintains databases containing all information relating to the users, user accounts, user smart cards, field devices and products, establishes and maintains at least at times communication with the field devices, issues instructions based on the available information and transmits to a plurality of field devices, with the field devices maintaining information relating to the smart cards and products so that communication between a field device and a smart card allows at least a portion of the smart card-related instructions to be processed from the instruction list and stored on the field device and to be transmitted to the computer system during the next communication, and wherein the smart cards carry to allow exchange of information with a field device and store instructions.

  • Publication number: 20110079642
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for the preferably cashless processing especially of machine-related transactions using a memory card (4), wherein upon detection of the memory card (4), usage is enabled by a machine (3) which is in communication (2) with a database (5) and/or a processing unit (1) and usage-related transaction data are transmitted from the machine (3) to the database (1) and/or the processing unit (1). It is an object of the invention to further develop a method of the this kind to that extent that the intended function of the machine or smartcard writing/reading device can be achieved independently of an existing communication link between the machine or the smartcard writing/reading device and the local database. As a solution, the invention proposes that the usage-related transaction data are stored on the memory card (4) at least temporarily and the memory card (4) is thus utilized as an information transfer medium.

  • Publication number: 20110053502
Abstract: A system for automatic detection of smart cards, particularly of electronic tickets, has a control computer and a detection device. The detection device has a communication interface for the communicating coupling with a smart card. A communication link is established between the control computer and the detection device that is designed in a wireless fashion.

  • Publication number: 20060036863
Abstract: In order to provide a system and a method for managing usage authorizations that are based on the use of smart cards, which offer a high level of flexibility and a high level of security both for the operator and the user, can operate without a permanent communication connection between the field devices and the central computer if possible, and are practical even for a mass operation, a system is suggested for managing usage authorizations that are based on the use of smart cards, including a central computer system, field devices and smart cards carried by potential users, wherein the central computer system maintains databases containing all information that relates to the users, user accounts, their assigned smart cards, field devices and products, establishes and maintains at least at times a communication connection with the field devices, issues instructions on actions to be conducted based on the available information and transmits these to a plurality of smart card-related relevant field devices, wit

  • Patent number: 6986458
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for multi-application user media such as smart cards that can be used by users to obtain related benefits. Multiple applications of one type such as transportation may be implemented on user media from a standard or reference of that application type. Hierarchical networks and data structures may be provided in implementing user media. User media may include application identifiers, associated data groups, and data structures that are associated with the data groups. An application may be configured by different originators differently based on sets of defined data groups and/or data structures from which the originator may select in implementing the application. Multiple applications of different types such as financial, health, transportation, etc. may be configured on user media to provide related services.

Multiple applications of one type such as transportation may be implemented on user media from a standard or reference of that application type. Hierarchical networks and data structures may be provided in implementing user media. Data integrity features may be implemented by, for example, implementing anti-tearing features. Data groups may be classified into fixed and dynamic data groups, wherein the dynamic data groups may be further subclassified into parallel, circular, and alternate data groups to apply anti-tearing differently, such as based on the type of data element involved. A valid record list may be implemented for tracking current valid information.
